I know it is likely a far cry from the original sh 101 , does anyone have experience with it? I like the fact that it has a keyboard and can likely also be used as a midi controller $ 650 or thereabouts...
I did play with it a bit, was not unimpressed, and could get a decent bass as well out of it...
What say you all?

if u want the proper analog story then just forget about it ,,, if u want a decent virtual analog i think its pretty cool , specially if u use it as ur controller and basically juice it out completely .           http://www.soundcloud.com/essio

That's exactly what I was thinking Essio, a decent virtual analog synth with controller function...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

well I have the sh 201 , which is the one before the gaia ... i was kinda let down by it , it was my first synth and i didnt know much about the whole va and real analog thing ... its fair to say these roland synths are on the low end side of vas quality wise (sound quality and in the case of sh201 integration quality ... as compared to something like virus Ti) ... but then its a handy controller , got some nice arps and stuff and u can make some decent bass sounds and if u gonna use it for more housie or proggy tunes i think u can get a lot out of it ... the gaia is better cuz it has like 5-6 effects u can pass even ur external sounds through ... its got an extra oscillator and some more stuff im sure ... I suggest u surely go fiddle with it a bit more before buying it just to be sure

using logic automating stuff with the sh201 works like a charm ... using cubase i had a bit of problem automating stuff ... but i could use it to make cc recordings ... didn't get time to dig enough but im sure theres a way to use it for proper automation in cubase too

heres a thread on the gaia :

Ive got a gaia and a 101 and although you cant really compare them in terms of sound quality,i still find myself playing with the gaia for hours making and saving patches. Like you say it makes really nice bass tones and I realll like the effects too. Also the fact you can layer up three diff sounds is a nice touch as well and for 500 quid it seems pretty good to me

Saving for it

It is fun to toy around with indeed. Do you happen to also use it as midi controller for other synths, sequencer etc. ? Any feedback on that?           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

i almost bought it about two months ago, got an ipad instead, must say i think i made a mistake, at least as far as my own uses.

seems like it is good value for price and lots of fun.

if you are not expecting it to be something it isn't, i think it is a good buy

i had a lotttt of fun playing on one in the store. I think it sounds great and it was easy to get lots of good sounds out of it really easily. The filters were very smooth.

I really liked having an actual interface like that in front of me too as opposed to mouse turning knobs.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page
