You're missing the point.

Thing is, most synths that sell well are just performance synths for keyboardists, etc.
This is what it does. And it will probably be good at it.
So you're one of the "selected few" who wants analog psy stuff? Go get a moog.

yeah the only thing is that it has the jupiter name on it and that is used to make believe potential buyers that is something that just aint           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

The name "Jupiter"
I am not saying these synths are useless, just saying that naming them after their real analog forefathers, is...unfortunate.

Peace out.

imo the Jupiter 6 is better then the 8 for doing psytrance somehow. and this Jupiter80 is as everyone mentioned rubbish , just like the remake of the SH series , Gaia anyone haha! Roland hasnt made anything interesting after the V-synth for me!

2500 squid? I regularly (once every 3 months or so) see proper jupiters go for less on the second hand market. One would think that it ought to be the other way around, but Roland has not been thinking straight for some years. Imagine if they came out with a new analog jupiter at that price....That at least would be justified.           Mastering available here:

The Jupiter 8, unlike the chip based Jupiter 6, is discrete circuit based synth. IF they could still find all the components, it would cost an awful lot to re-make it today.

Peace out.

Well it´s not a discrete design by any stretch of the imagination and relies heavily on integrated circuits. Of the jupiter series only the earlier models of the 4 were discrete designs (minus a microprocessor for patch storage). In fact a good deal of these IC´s were of roland design and not third party, meaning that it should be very possible to start fabbing those parts again (save for some hard to find transistors that could be swapped for newer replacements). That being said, building a new one from the old designs would not result in an identical sound, but i doubt many Moog owners complain about their voyagers with all those added benefits it offers over an original model D. Hell for any company with a lot of engineering capacity, it would be a piece of cake to slap together a nice synth using available off the shelf curtis chips even. Making it polyphonic is where it gets fun, but they already got around that in the 70´s.

depends from what side they are coming , from va to voyager sure it sound great, from the best vintage synths to a voyager i guess not that much. it seems it just lost a part of the magic of the model D from what i have heard of it,but it s maybe just my taste there and its not a proper way of evaluating the synths anyway.

I dont think even a new analog jupiter would cut it today not for me atleast , for the music i make i wouldnt use Jupiter 8 sounds at all, if i were doing synth pop yes. Considering that Roland have fired all their old employees , their market strategies are based on previous projects like the SH201 or the Gaia , they surely arent going to satisfy our small psytrance market, however from a Global musicians view this Roland jupiter 80 will surely sell alot, interesting will be to see how Korg reacts to this , having a few heavyweights under their name too. Im still waiting the day to see a Hybrid synth, something with VCOs, Wavetables OScs, parallel/serial dual VCF based , with Digital Lfos /envelopes and a big mod matrix + fx and touch screen maybe as an added bonus , so it would include subtractive, wavetable and vector based synthesis .. Overkill! heheh

How´s that overkill? There is a box that does that, albeit not with the Roland name slapped onto it´s surface. The DSI Evolver is just what you described minus the touchscreen (tabletop version sucks for programming so at a minimum the keyboard version)

With regards to the discrete design or lack of in the old jupiters they all had discrete vco´s but other elements used either custom roland chips or, in the case of the 6, cem chips. Jupiters first found fame in a lot of other music besides psytrance and i would certainly much rather listen to chords played on an analog polysynth in popular music today, than what is on offer from roland here. For sound design i´d say that apart from the evolver and modular systems nothing really inspiring has come about in the analog arena for quite some time now.           Mastering available here:

The polyevolver doesnt feature vector based synthesis and i think a touch screen would be ideal to implement vectors. The Waldorf Q+ comes fairly close but still dosnt have analog oscillators or vector synthesis. So all that collectively in 1 box i think is an overkill
