So yesterday I was chilling in my room listening to some old cds.. So then this absofuckinglutely fantastic song started.. it was SO great!
So what was it? It was "Red Seal - Are You Afraid Of The Dark"

So immediately I did some "research" and now I've got
10 Red Seal songs..

Are you afraid of the dark
Chillin' in da zone
Chillin' in da zone live rmx
Mice on mars
Cool down
Dawn salutation
Seccie and cool
Supernatural
These are the days
&
atmos - allways in control (red seal rmx)

and they are all perfect! I suddenly started to like vocal/chill/dub/rap/ambient/psy ..that's what the style is.. Red Seal became one of my very favorite artists..

So anyways since FR is dead (?) and so on..
Well what's going on with Red Seal? Any incoming stuff? Does he have a new label?
Are there any artists with similar style?
Any info is more than welcome!

Red Seal never really put out much material on Flying Rhino & now thats gone.. who knows.. but they were a great live act. If you like them - you may want to check out...

*"East of River Ganges" on Dragonfly/LSD (mix of dub/toasting/eastern sounds)

or look out for "Unity Dub's Voyage into Paradise" on Dragonfly/LSD

Or basically anything on LSD . The off shoot of Drgaonfly is tends towards ambient/trippy dub

*Anything by Zion Train or anything on Universal Egg records

Someone had asked what ambient/dub had to do with psy music - well the answer is obvious to anyone who's ever been to a party with a chill out room/area - as that invariably plays chillout which is often dub/ambient!

bye

Also.. maybe stating the obvious - but worth digging out some old Orb stuff - they were doing the whole ambient dub thing over ten years ago.

And while on the subject of dub - have a look out for stuff the ON-U label (Adrian Sherwoods label) - theres all kinds of dub related weirdness going on there!

good luck

The soooooo awaited (at least by me hehe) album Black Ops will be released on June 8th...

Let's hope it is a definitive dead-line or my nerves will be on the verge of collapse           .

Yes, album coming soon on Flow Records...

It works quite good live too. I saw them live at Sola Luna in Greece 2001, at the chill out stage. It was nice, being on the sunny beach while listening to it. A bit too much vocals now and then for my taste, but the tracks they have released so far is great.           CHILL TRIBE

I like vocals in tracks, but actual good hip-hop MC's are so few and far between that it's very easy to write off the entire genre as crap. However, here are a few things of that nature I like...

Massive Attack - sure they're popular, but who cares? Mezzanine and Protection are great albums.

Pole - kinda abstract techno hiphop beats with philosophical vocals

Gorillaz - if you think these guys are too commercial, then check out their Laika Come Home remix album, done in pure dub style

LTJ Bukem - he's mostly ambient drum n' bass, but he has an excellent MC, MC Conrad

Blackalicious - some of my hip-hop loving friends have played me tracks by these dudes that I liked
