i wonder why most of psytracne related websites are made in flash ....... its slow to load .... has unnecessary fucntions and is just plain irritating at times ....... cant they just make it simple html ... few benefits that come to my mind are ..... lower website development and maintenence costs ........ faster loading ..... simple looks that makes browsing easier ......

but i must agree on thing which is some sites really rock with their cool graphics and flash thingys .......

my view would like to know what u guys think......

peace

PS sorry if this has been discussed before ..... i searched and got 10 pages .......

I agree fully - flash is a bit much for a whole site design. Throw in a bit of flash but there are some sites entirely designed in it that take a million years to load and have some of the most asinine user interface problems I've ever seen (and actually - accessable UI design is part of my job).

Flash is good for playing a label's music - but it is just my habit to always be listening to music when I browse and I despise when my headphones start trainwrecking just because I went to go get some info about a new release. Make it optional! grr...

What kind of connections are you guys on? I'm on 2Mb/512Kb and don't find the flash sites too much of annoyance..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

yes we are in the 21st century... yet still i think websites should keep in mind that the design has to be dial up friendly. also screen resolution should be kept on the older format unfortunately... not quite their there adsl/cable wise on a global scale... soon enough im sure.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I hate flash!
Hate it! It's so easy to go totally wrong with it. To abuse useless functions. Why in the name of Bill Gates anybody would want to use flash text? It looks aweful, you can't easily copy paste it, and it's just plain annoying. And it's more than an issue of download speeds, it's tough on processors aswell.
Anyways i think it's down to personal tastes.
As always.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

I think most of the problems with flash is down to design and not flash itself.
Html have a predictable behaviour, and will therefore by nature have a standardized design.

I worked with html/java developers that been sure that flash makes for big files by nature, but been proven wrong when they seen that I can make a menusystem that is half the filesize, took a third of the time to make, better compatability across browsers and looks exactly the same.

I also done work for clients demanding no flash is used, and at the same time 9 out of 10 of her favorite designs she wanted me to look at was made entierly in flash.
They where just well designed and looked and worked just like a html page.

Text behaviour is since long pretty much undestinguable from html, apart from that you can specify what font to use.
What disturbes you Pavel is anti-aliasing which makes the text blurry, which can be disableled if the designer choose to do that.
You can copy and paste if the designer specified that the text should be selectable.
One flaw is there though that bothers me a bit on my resonantearth site. Since I use white text on black background you won't see what text you select which is a bit bad of course.

I did get one person complaining about that resonantearth WOULD be slow for modem users.
The whole site is one swf file on 128k wich is basically 11 pages. The player which i guess mostly broadband users will open is 42k on top of that.
It's by no means much even for a modem user.

With a project like resonantearth i figured that most people will enjoy a design that looks flashy, and I do like sites like that very much myself, but when I do large cooperate sites I try to make it look and behave exactly like html.
Still for many reasons flash is very useful if you want more than basic text and images and will only be large in filesize if you use much pictures, audio and many different fonts.

Dynamic html really sucks in my experience anyway, and i find it very boring to work on and browse basic text and images sites, so I'm quite a fanatic flash geek           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

to me flash is only good if its done really really well. Like 2advanced.com, i visit that just to look at how cool it looks. ALmost every psytrance site ive seen useing flash has just been pointless. The only good ive seen with flash in psy has been that shpongle/hoffman crazy animation

Resonant Earth is a good example of a psy site that uses flash technology.
Unfortunatelly there are a lot that misuse it.

Especially nice compliment considering your views on flash in general

I don't think bandwidth is the main issue, though it is a consideration... I'm more bothered by flashy sites that say, redraw the screen in a crazy way any time you try to fetch a small bit of text... or which play music and dont provide a stop button or volume control... or which have those unreadable fonts... or any number of crazy things which can really make the site an awkward pain in the ass to use.

Same thing... Don't really like full Flash site... except when done masterfully...

Also Flash is more difficult to update by non-specialist (except maybe if Flash/php tech is used ... ) and you end up easilly with never updated websites because the owner don't have the designer around anymore......

Agree as well, that Boom site this year was a good example although it was a great design, one really struggled to get basic information.

Its about fashion I guess, html is 'old'
