This might be a little off-topic, but nevertheless... I was wondering if people who enjoy listening to chill-out music (which is instrumental) also have a few (instrumental) soundtracks that they recommend.

Personally, for me it would be:
Passion - By Peter Gabriel
Gladiator - By Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard
Dune - By ToTo

Any other recommendations?

Ghost in the shell: original soundtrack

It have some pretty amazing moments like the beautiful track "Nightstalker"... but its only 1:30 mins long

you can hear some of the tracks here:

           - The yeti loves to drink shnaps too, so he's like a real shaman... he, uhm, uh, if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest.

Passion, which got me into Peter Gabriel's world music releases when I was in college radio...and here I am DJing very similar music 15 years later!

Balkan from Bunker Palace Hotel (which I have never mnanaged to see) by the Women's Bulgarian Choir who have been sampled umpteen billion times in electronic music. Most recently the new Phutureprimitive album samples them!

Alfred Hitchcock Master of Mayhem, comprised largely of compositions by Lalo Schiffrin.

Henry V, an excellent example of a single theme aply used throughout a film to derive different emotional effect by varying key, tempo, etc.

The music from the Lord of the Rings movies, individually and as a whole, are also excellent examples of this more narrative style of composition. And did anyone note the similarity between the main theme and Future Sound of London's "My Kingdom"?

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Theme of Lawrence of Arabia

Dead Can Dance and Lisa Gerrard have provided original music for several films such as Gladiator. However, I have found a lot of Lisa's soundtrack work, particularly Whale Rider, too derivative of DCD or her own releases.

Run Lola Run

Requiem for a Dream

Pi

I have a couple guilty pleasure tracks on Party Monster, simply because of their association with the movie.

Dune - By ToTo

Great topic!

Toto did Dune? Interesting. A friend was just going on about Africa and its intricacies recently.
