A great musical journey from the begining to the end!! Very trippy and mystical.

Yeah, those weird little breaks give it a kinda 'concept album' feel - similar to the recent Jaia album (but personally i think this is even better) and yep, it is very trippy! In fact ‘This is a Recording' is one of the freakiest things i've ever heard!

Even though i made a reference to IM's 'Classical Mushroom', i didn't really mention the strong classical feel that the album has. 'Trance' and classical music can work really well together when it's done right... and this one gets it spot on! I love the piano melody and strings on 'Tommy is Dead'. Brilliant!

I think this has all the markings of a real classic.

the weird bits in this album remind me of Escape from Noise by Negativland which is worth checking out if you have not heard it.

VA - HAMMOCK VOL. 2 2005 (SYNERGETIC)

01. Ovnimoon - I Love You
02. Amber - Become A Sound
03. Dub Acan - Siesta (Psylounge Ovnimoon Remix)
04. Tratosphere - Banana Boat
05. Shwe Dagon - Mas Que Nada
06. Ovnimoon - Viaje Al Sur
07. Arjuna & Divinorum - A New Beginning
08. Baroni & Arjuna - Sem Fronteiras
09. Funky Dragon - Orbital
10. Gyrro - Intimate Together

Excellent melodic ambient/dub compilation.

The standard of quality is very high throughout - in fact there isn't really a single weak track on the entire album so it makes it difficult to pick favourites... but i especially liked the Dub Acan track.

One of the most solid and consistently good chill-out comps i've heard in a long time!           Am i the only one who believes in solipsism?

One of the best releases this year.Pro work and something different than the ususal psy-trance works.
I won't analyze each track. The hole cd is a masterpiece and it compines psy-trance and clubby phat techno beats. Minimalistic sometimes it gives you the sense that, at last, something changing in this music scene.Samuel Wallerstien and Yaniv Biton are respnsible for this. When i first listen to Authentic, 3.turn, midimiliz, delta i was wondering how their style will be a little bit more psychedelic and finally b&w gave me the answer. psy electro techno.Suitable for aoutdoor and indoor events. Support to those who makes the difference.
fav. tracks 1-2!!-4!!-5!-8-9
---Track 2 reminds me Annie Clark from the good old 80's

APE TO ANGEL by PITCH BLACK 2005 (DUBMISSION)

With a name like 'Pitch Black' you would be forgiven for expecting some kind of uber-dark-psy madness and probably surprised (in my case pleasantly surprised) to find out that this is actually really nice chilled ambient/dubby progressive.

There are a lot of great tracks on this one like the opening break-beat-ish title track 'Ape to Angel', the chilling 'Freefall' (spoilt slightly imo by a repetitive vocal sample), the dubby 'The Random Smiler (Live)', the equally dubby full-vocal based 'Elements Turn' and spacey closing ambient track 'Empty Spaces Missing Units'.

My favourite on the album has to be 'Lost in Translation' - excellent dubby track with a good psy melody and a great slow break-beat kick.

This album was a real surprise for me and i'd recommend it very highly!

In the words of the great Columbo, just one last thing...

In the opening post of this thread i mentioned that one of the reasons why people don't like to write long detailed reviews was because they may not have the ability. Given, that may be true if English isn’t your first language... but otherwise, thinking about it, that’s a bit of a crock of shit really.

Just about everyone has the ability to write a long detailed review - not necessarily a good one but it's hardly rocket science. The fact is that most people just can't be arsed and i'm one of them. I don't want to (or even have the time to) sit listening to an album track by track, over and over again writing down every last note, break and sample... and if i did it would probably bore me as silly as anyone who may read it. I much prefer to comment on an album as a whole and include detail where necessary.

This is an open forum for everyone and if you are listening to something that has yet to be reviewed and want to comment on it then you shouldn't have to write a 5 page essay detailing what the artist eats for breakfast and the colour socks you were wearing while writing the review. Just let us know what you think! Your opinion is just as important as anyone else's... and if someone says ‘i don’t like the idea’ or 'that's not a proper review' then just tell them to get their head out of their arse!
