RealTV - American Show that bashed trance

I was watching a tv show today called RealTV, they did a segment about "desert raves", where kids in America go out in the middle of no where and listen to music and do drugs. The segment was mainly about the people that go to these raves and the ungodly amount of drugs that they do, but one comment sent me over the edge. They said "the music doesnt have many words because it will confuse them". Honestly, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If anyone was listening they wouldnt have said that. They never said the words "trance", "psytrance" or anything like that. But fact is, it was psychidelic trance playing in the video clips. The main reason I brought this up was because it just supports negative steriotypes and it really didnt help out trance's name.
I dont even know where to start with this... I will just leave it open for discussion. Thoughts? |

Man, sOft, it seems the only ones who are "confused" are those who made the show in the first place!
i wouldnt get too wound up bout this coz its the same in england to some extents and its kinda accepted that there will always be a 'them & us' scenario happening especially when TV is involved...
it does paint a bad sterotype which would hold true, if only we were "ungodly" drug munching fiends...

honestly, i feel offended. i really dont like that people think trance music is mindless when it has created more thought for me then any other type of music. it just doesnt make sense, its ignorance. maybe the main reason im offended is because this time it was extremly public. |

To hell with TV!
Trance is still mostly an underground culture. Most people wouldn't understand what it's about. Hell, most people don't know shit about music at all (sorry for patronizing).
You should be happy that they talk about "desert raves" in that manner, because once they say otherwise it will lose all the underground magic. |

s0ft my man.... try to look at it in another way the more "regular" americans will be into trance, the more it will move away from what you know and like into something you dont.
i saw "Reno 911" just the other day on comedy central and they had a whole segment on going to "Burning Man" to do an LSD bust... it was hillarious man! they dressed up with costumes and all and made fun of the whole BM scene...
The simple fact that they are making fun of it confirm its existence here, take it as a compliment and let it blow by you

If they never said the words "trance" or "psytrance" that´s nice for us because they have generalized the issue and i think they where not refering to trance exctritly.

Look, we all have to admit tha what they're saying is partially true. Not about trance being mindless (i mean i don't see Bach or Beethoven having any words and no one calls them mindless) but about people coming to parties to do plenty of drugs.
Basically parties are evil cause kids 15 or 16 years old would probably never come in touch with so many drugs if they didn't go to parties.
Believe me, I'm living proof. I'm 20 and did so much bad Es when i was younger now I can't focus at all and now i'm flunking coledge.
Oh yeah and screw america. Anything that becomes popular in the USA becomes commercial trash and we wouldn't want that to happen to psy now would we? |

man, when i was a kid i was told that drug users and dealers are scum o'the earth - but as i grew and left behind (some of) my childish ways i began to realise as adults we have a choice - And its better to have that choice and not use it - than to want that choice and not have it.

I agree with you guys and all I have to say is that one shouldn't really care about what silly people think about our scene.
Even more on TV. Newspapers' journalists are dumb enough... imagine how silly one has to be to cope working on a tv show.
Bad Propaganda is very good propaganda in a way. Even more for those that are looking for tunning in and eventually drop out, as Leary said.
p.s - I'd be a nicer person nowadays, I believe, if I had psy parties to go when I was teen |
