Rainbow Serpent Festival 2008 - January 25–28

The wheels are truly in motion and the ingredients are being gathered from around the world to bring you another memorable event in celebration of music, arts, lifestyle, nature, friends, and whatever else you fancy.

The most recent Rainbow Serpent Festival earlier this year saw us reach the significant milestone of 10 years. We are now excited to be heading into our second decade and will continue to deliver the unique and magical experience Rainbow is renowned for.

Just to wet your appetite we would like to announce our first couple of internationals, who just happen to be two of the greatest live electronic acts on the planet.

Eat Static – (Solstice Music, UK)

Eat Static were formed in 1989 by Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton, then drummerand synth player respectively for UK psychedelic band Ozric Tentacles. The band made a name for themselves on the Megadog 'live' techno scene of the early '90s, playing alongside the likes of Orbital, Underworld and Aphex Twin.

They were the first signings to Megadog-offshoot Planet Dog records, releasing their debut album 'Abduction' in 1993. Since then the band have played hundreds of gigs worldwide and have become one the most respected and spectacular live dance acts around. Whilst essentially a sci-fi influenced, trance/techno outfit, they have also incorporated drum and bass, breakbeat, latin, garage and ambient styles into their sound.

In the past few years the band has become more involved with the psychedelic trance scene, playing parties and festivals the world over and releasing numerous tracks on numerous compilations. Their latest album De-Classified has just been released on Solstice Music and once again sees their sound evolving. Breaks, Dubstep, Trance and Drum n’ Bass all fuse with their paranoid, futuristic and up-for-it blend of psychedelic techno. We welcome them to the Rainbow lineup for 2008 for what won’t just be the live set of the summer, but will be a truly unique experience you will never forget.

Son Kite / Minilogue (Digital Structures / Wagon Repair, Sweden)

These guys barely need an introduction….. but just in case you’ve been living under a rock, let’s do one anyway.

Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson came from opposing backgrounds. Sebastian was trained as a classical musician playing the organ, piano and the violin among other instruments. He even became involved in teaching them until his coming of age at 18 when he formed a band and began experimenting with the sounds in a more contemporary way. Marcus lived on a diet of Kraftwerk and the Human League until realising his true calling in the techno parties of the 90s.

They got together in 1996 and after 10 years in the music business under globally successful guises such as Son Kite and Trimatic, they formed Minilogue - an animalistic music concept without the boundaries of genres.

Two of the most sort after acts around the world Son Kite and Minilogue have a reputation for consistently mind-bending live performances. They dismantled the dancefloor at Rainbow in 2006 like Tetris grandmasters and we look forward to being realigned by these guys once more.

To be quite honest I for one am not excited about RSF anymore...
Last year's venue was a huge disappointment for me and my psyhead friends!
We all felt that the psy party vibe had been left behind and was being replaced by clubby electro and other forms of techno-acid.
According to the current lineup this year isn't going to be any different.

It sure isn't what it used to be

The Rainbow Serpent Festival has come a long way in 10 years. From a small gathering in a secluded clearing, to an internationally recongnised, multifaceted weekend of dance, colour, expression and celebration. People now travel from all over the world to Western Victoria to experience what some have said is the best outdoor festival of it’s type in the Southern Hemisphere.

Music wise, 2008 is quickly taking on epic notoriety with one of the largest and most diverse range of artists the festival has ever seen.

For starters, English techno duo Eat Static are set to bring the dancefloor to a frenzy, when they unleash their unique brand of futuristic and up-for-it psychedelic techno. The band made a name for themselves on the Megadog 'live' techno scene of the early '90s, playing alongside the likes of Orbital, Underworld and Aphex Twin.

Add to that two of the most sort after acts around the world in Son Kite and Minilogue, who have a reputation for consistently mind-bending live performances. They dismantled the dancefloor at Rainbow in 2006 like Tetris grandmasters and will no doubt do the same in 2008.

Not epic enough?? Well here’s some more for you!

Haltya, (Exogenic, Finland), Andromeda (Echoes / Vaporvent, Spain), Ott (Twisted - UK), Pitch Black (Dubmission, UK), Space Tribe (Space Tribe Music, Australia), Monolake (Imbalance Computer Music, Germany), Edoardo (Neurobiotic, Italy), Triptych (Turbo Trance, France), Solead (Citizen, France), Zen Mechanics (Neurobiotic - Nertherlands), Ripperton (Connaisseur - Germany), Beauty and the Beat (Tribal Vision, Germany), Talpa (Sundance, Serbia), Dousk (Vapour, Greece), Kasey Taylor (Vapour, Portugal), Chromosome (YSE, Spain), Ryo (Solstice Music, Japan), Vishnudata (Space Boogie, Finland)

Representing the local contingent, international favourites Sun Control Species (Iboga) and Sensient (Zenon), head a cast of over 100 of Australia’s most talented DJ’s and producers.

With world class décor, roving artistic performances, crazy activities you cant imagine a more exotic sensory mix spread over four days. Put simply if you’ve never been to the Rainbow Serpent Festival, now is the time to buy a tent and call your friends.

Tickets are selling fast, so if you’re a Rainbow regular and want to save by grabbing your early bird tickets, now is the time to buy.
