hi fellow djs

Do you feel/think that it is ok to use 4 tracks from the same artist (3 from latest album, 1 from a VA) in a mix?

The track order is different than in the album and they are not played in a row. These are all released tracks, and it is a psychill/downtempo mix.

Thanks in advance

Tom

p.s

by the way the artist is Eat Static, what to do, i love them soo much           MINDFLUX - A continuing flow of the human consciousness that originates in the brain and is manifested especially through thought, perception, emotion, will, memory, and imagination.

I avoid playing even 2 tracks of the same artist no matter even if its different album or VA.. I can play 2 tracks of different artists from VA in one set..
U better play 2 tracks and save other 2 for other set..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

dude,
in a dj set you can play what and how often you want.. what speaks against it? its your creative process. if the tracks go togehter well, as they will most likely because they appear on the same album... sweet!

as elad said, its just an expression of your respect to the artist who made the tracks!

I don't see anything wrong with it. I've done it before. A DJ mix is much more about the story you are telling, in my opinion, than who's playing the tracks.           Keep The Faith,

Well i take this topic to ask a question about mixing.

Does you DJ's, mix two or more tracks? Well i mean if you are playing a song X, then put the song Y playing and then put again the song X, and then put the song Z and then the Y again... Do you usually do this, or just put one track playing and only in the end of the same track put another playing?

Do it as much as I can! (and think it fits...)

But the answer is YES !

Mixing only X => Y is sometimes not enough for me.
When theres a break in X, and Y can perfectly match - I switch or combine between them just for a few moments... I love it           www.myspace.com/42aviv

We had Eat Static here last year......i jammed at the party.....and they were OUT there alright!

Funny chaps!

No problem with using an artist more than once in a set.....i do.

For me....i have to.....there just aren't enough tracks out there that i will deem good enough for my set!

LOL.

Well, by the way, just another question...

It makes any difference to put in the set tracks from the year 2005 or above? I'm asking this because nowadays i cant find any interesting track...

new not always means good ... and a few tracks are quite timeless.

the main problem will be, that the style changes by time.

i sometimes feel a bit bothered, when djs play stuff from last season up and down ...
like i said: only a few timeless tracks out there           http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

You set the standards as you go... do an entire set by an artist if you like. View it as saving on airfare and booking fees if you feel guilty.

I know plenty of Dj's that can mix other artist music better than the artist themselves can mix live(Dj)in Abelton or on the decks.
