Q: Any suggestions for a good NYC venue
to do a 200-300 people 11pm -8am party?

we have a list of many but want to make sure we know all the possibilities before we make this important decision

My faves are daylight studios, the hook in brooklyn, and amazURa ballroom in queens.

with all the costs factored in...... lunaterium is a tough place to make any profit on.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

We're thinking 200-300 people, these places are good but too big... I'm sure there must be places that aren't that talked about out there.... in Brooklyn too would be good, somewhere accessible, and not too commercial... even an official ware-house / large loft venue that has a liquer license and permission to stay open till 8am...

ah my friend, i know it sounds like a reasonable request but nyc is really anti-psy in that sense and the places that will do it usually have a cabaret licence, and those who have a cabaret licence usually are bigtime places like arc, sound F, the new twilo (i forget the name) and so on.... its a problem, bigtime. good luck!           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I would reccomend the club "the Hook" in Brooklyn where the Halloween ecliptic trance party was held. Good security, nice heated smoking lounge with tables in the backyard, and they have guiness on tap at the bar.

Pisces1979 Thanks for taking the liberty and recommending club "The Hook" before even asking or finding out that club "The Hook" has an EXCLUSIVITY AGREEMENT with Ecliptic-Trance, Inc.

Club Mundo is closed for violating city space and structure codes.

ps Mundo should reopen around january....
they dont have sound though, you need to provide that yourself.

psyclipse which org. do u represent?

dont fall in to make the party in a loft since the 2 last spectra parties were busted, and this one has a good chance in my opinion to have the same fate... since 9/11/2003 police is more free to concetrate on enforcing the cabaret laws. i would do some serious reading about legality and such before you plunge yourself into anything.

How about Roxy or Cinema World. You can also try to get intouch with the guys from OMNITRIBE - they had two or three really underground places, like the fencing gym on 26th street and huge loft on 28th street i think.

Roxy has an exclusivity agreement with Phantasm, Cinema World Studios found it unprofitable and risky to run the synthetic parties there, i know the guy who rents it out and he says ever since the sadhus are gone he has made tons more money on renting out the place as wedding and bar mitzvahs hall. it is a space for at least 1000 people. and lets not even discuss budget and the fact that for the price you pay you need to tag on security, event insurance, sound and much much more...           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

yeah places like Roxy and other huge venues were out of the question from the start....
200-300 people, thats what we are looking to do.

whats this about the loft on 28th street... and that was probably a few years ago when the police were more relaxed... now its too much of a risk... its easy to just say how about this loft or that one... but when you are actually throwing a party you want to know for sure that it is not going to get shut down.

Surrender, do you think its possible, and how realistic is it, that one could find a place either in Manhattan, or Brooklyn / Queens but not too far... that would be good for 200-300, and allowed to stay functioning till
7 or 8 am. There are the nite-club type places, yes.
But what about the legal loft-venue places. aren't there a number of places that have licenses to rent themselves out for party purposes, and have a soundsystem and possibly a liquer license? I know you've just been researching and having first hand experience in this because of your party (which was great!)... so I'm not really asking for name or places, but more on your take and opinion on odds. chances... possibilities etc... (and thanks for what you already contributed)
and also if you do have any suggestions places you might have seen, that would be super!

well man i understand you, but from what i saw, and from what i've researched... the places are few... it is possible but you must look hard and never give up.
there is no such thing as a legal loft that runs to 8am, lofts may only have something called a "public assembly licence" which is not a full cabaret licesnce and it has a few diffrences:
1. you may only run the event until 4am.
2. you cannot sell or serve alcohol legally inside the venue.
3. you must provide security (no less then 6 persons) and event insurance for the night.
4. you cannot legally charge any payment at the door, only "donations".

the problem i found in nyc, is that the psy prefix really makes some space owners/managers uneasy... they rather not tarnish their name with drug infested lsd taking pill poppin young wreckless kids... ofcourse we know that is pure bullshit and the trance crowd, excuse me for being arrogant, is much much better than any other crowd, more down to earth and definately not the sticklight kids who spray paint and vandalize everything in sight. but thats the reality now adays...
if u want pm me, we can discuss more.

To Surrender: I apologize, surrender, for reccomending the club "the hook"... I understand that you wanna protect your venue from dodgy "promoters"...
To Psyclipse: Have you thought about throwing a party in Jersey, westchester, or Connecticut? You won't have to deal with NYC cabaret laws, and if you have a 21 plus party, you are less likely to be percieved as a "rave" by the local PD.
You could try renting out a V.F.W. Post, Knights of Columbus hall, both of which often have liqour liscenses and a bar on the premises.
I recomend that you use the term "trance music" instead of "psy-trance" when speaking with club/bar owners.
Here a couple of links you might find helpful.
