I have alwasy been intrested in the subject, being rather weak in phisics right from my educational years, i just cant seem to break it down. Google hasn't really helped my curiosity because i cant understand most of the content in the links that's provided.

Now, i know some of us have a better understanding of this subject - can someone please take the time to post something that might make me understand what its all about? like imagine you are telling a baby what quantum physics is..

Nothing is said that has not been said before.

quantum physics and trance have a correlation
to understand that

not off topic but on like a full on topic           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

Well, at extremely small scale, electrons are acting as waves and particles at the same time.
That basically means that a particle can be at three different places at the same time, without being anywhere at all.

Also, they are not behaving in the same way when you're observing them, as they would if you would not observe them.

It's an ocean of potential.

Normal physics laws are not applied here, therefore it's hard to accept it.

Scientists are still figuring it out, but they came to conclusion (for now) that quantum physics is related to consciousness.

Here's the most famous experiment in quantum physics, it's a clip from a documentary "What the bleep do we know - quantum edition". Highly recommended if you're interested in this stuff.

Nice info hip/shuma. Quantum physics is a really interesting concept i also have been learning about it many documentaries. Although i understand the jist of it not the detail. It being related to consciousness which makes it all the more interesting.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

to understand quantum physics requires an understanding of much more than just science!!

keep an open mind - you may just love the ride!!

The beauty of quantum physics is that it can all be derived from a few physical rules and mathematical curiosities which mean something like "you cannot know both where a particle is and where it is moving to at the same time". Think of a pitch in baseball. You can either take a picture of it, and your brain will make it seem like you know where it's going (but you actually don't, you just see a picture), or you might be standing behind it and see where it's going, but you can't tell exactly where it is.

Now when tiny things are moving really fast (like electrons), it's proven that there is no way, EVER, to record both at the same time. There are a load of implications to this, from the fact that observation changes the way those tiny things act, to things like massive black holes actually emitting stuff, not just sucking everything in, despite the fact that "standard" physics says that's impossible.

To really understand and enjoy the subtleties of quantum physics, you need to know a lot of math (specifically, college level calculus and algebra) and physics. While there is a very technical side to this, those tiny formulas say so much that my simplification and examples here are basically like explaining to someone what psytrance is by making him listen to a five second loop.

No, they don't. Some do, but that conclusion is not founded in fact - it is a belief of some, and those gained a lot of publicity, because belief makes people talk more.

No. Quantum physics IS science. Understanding it is understanding science.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

four part series about String Theory, very interesting !

on http://www.whatthebleep.com/ are some documentairies about Quantum physics (mechanics )
These are the utter basics and contain easy too comprehend examples and explanations.

Yea I think the idea of "layman's quantum physics" makes about as much sense as pretending to understand mechanical engineering from looking at buildings...Argueably ^10 more absurd.

Penrose book The Emporers New Mind is a good one for philosophical implications of QM and the mind. Book its still akin to a book on architecture so to speak as to actually study mechanical engineering for "fun" would be really dull.

String Theory is the bleeding edge of physics, and at the moment it is nothing more than a mathematical and purely theoretical hypothesis. As reasonable as it is, not only is there no experiment to back it up, but no one can even think of an experiment that might prove it. To understand the assumptions and ground work of it you need to know a LOT of theory, otherwise, it's just as relevant as imagining that ultra-tiny dragons exist that are far smaller than subatomic particles, and they exist beyond concepts such as time and space and probability and the fire they breath is the universe.

As to "what the bleep", that film has a dangerous habit of mixing fact with religious belief (a la Scientology)... I'd think that other sources should be checked instead.          http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

i know.. i know.. just thought those might
be quite good, fun 'n easy ones for beginners..

still quite interesting though... i think..
i must have seen through or forgotten the religious links in there..

although quantum physics can get freakishly close to spirituality sometimes...

this then maybe ?

-The Quantum Activist (2009)
-BBC Horizon - Einstein's Unfinished Symphony (2005)
-The Quantum Tamers

http://forums.mvgroup.org/ ( a wondourfull place for good quality docu's )

...there's allot more in books about this subject though...

is that true... to have to know calculus and math very well to grasp quantum physics?
I would say no.. the concept itself is very spacy and i think this crowd is perfect for comprehending the quantum world.
trying to understand or discussing it can be interesting enough..

man oh man...these are the corners of science i expect the most radical discoveries from in this lifetime.. Go go Large Hadron Collidor!

get a copy of this book:

Quantum Psychology: How Brain Software Programs You & Your World - By Robert Anton Wilson
http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Psychology-Brain-Software-Programs/dp/1561840718

Provides a fairly good explanation of Quantum physics and its relation to the world around us. Certainly changed my point of view towards life, the universe and all the jazz that follows..           ...through the darkness of futures past,
the magician longs to see...
one chants out between two worlds,
fire.. walk with me

I reckon it doesn't make a lot of sense to get into quantum physics with unsatisfactory faculties in physics. I adore listening to physicists talking bout their thang, but there's no use indulging in it; it just leaves me puzzled, that's all (physics and especially maths are the subjects I'm weakest in).

However, I think neither physics nor quantum physics is the real deal. The point it gets interesting is when physicists try to find rules that are applicable to both physics of "big" and "small" things: Go go Large Hadron Collider, indeed!!
