Yeah, the majority of the music on MTV / radio, I would consider as "Musical Junkfood". Small catchy songs, where the brain does'nt have to do any work.
If the songs on the radio is too complex it will destract the masses from noticing the commercials....
People don't take the time to "really listen" to the music any more.....
sit/lay down, light some candles and put on your favourit Chillout/Ambient tune and LISTEN

i think to understand chill\ambient\dub etc. one should be naturally relaxed from inside or u should be on path of natural relaxation.otherwise u loose the true essence of the music.may be we all r more mature n grown up by our experineces n most of the humaity is yet to grow n still under their ego trip.wat kind of genres u listen tat doesnt matter much but u should always be chill from ur head.drop the ego n spread love.good music will flow through it. |

dude... i guess the biggest problem is tht theres not too much noise made aboput thses people and this sort of music... tht maybe cos of the ppl who listen to it... or even the ppl who make it...its like the appreciators are stuffed away in quiet pockets of the world and theres noone goin all out trying to show it to the world...ppl who listen t it probabaly come across it on their own accord... no one is pointed to it... hope im making sense... peace.

Nice topic!
Psy Chill-out of our scene is so beautiful and perfect, all mankind could relate to it. It is totally not understandable why our music doesn't reach its real audience, i.e everyone...
There are some good surprises though. There is in Switzerland and all over the world an incredible radio broadcast program called 'La Planète Bleue', every Sunday morning. It's been playing unusual and refined music for more than ten years now, and the success is great! Virtually thousands of people listen to it every week, including on the internet.
Guess what? They discovered Ultimae a few weeks ago and now play Ultimae tracks every week!!! (Aes Dana, Solar Fields, ...). Link: www.laplanetebleue.com
Archives of the emission, streaming, with setlists: http://www.couleur3.ch/fr/rsr.html?siteSect=5003&programId=57903&rubricId=1032
Thus said, I think this topic is eligible for the most elitist thread of the year! |

Interesting thread xerxes
I have the same thoughts from time to time.
Maybe because in order to appreciate good chillout you really need to listen to it, probably alone, without being constantly distracted by other things… a little bit like meditating. You need to tune-in, so to speak, to really let the music take you. I guess most people “do not have the time” to listen to music this way. Many people these days, I find, do not REALLY listen to music, they just hear it while doing other things.
Also, chillout music has no words, which makes it more difficult for the restless mind to handle… it forces it to relax and really go with the music.
In a way, it is similar to trace music, which also requires real and deep “tuning-in”, but with trance music you can dance, usually with the help of some chemicals – which really help. Chillout, on the other hand, is more meditative… (I’m repeating myself )
I think we should feel really lucky that there are such great artists out there, who share their superb music with us, even though they do not make as much money as other more “mainstream” musicians.

there is nothing more to add after this
the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!! |

oh..getting back to quality vs blarrh topic...
a good canditate 4 'blarrh' award winner this year must be 'Cafe Goa' from Avatar...
some tracks are recycled & stale...deja-vu chill ..and if i hear one more chant feat. irina mikhailova i think may just start menstruating..
also ol Psyreviews gave the Riddle of Santa Catherina! a scathlingly hilarious review....i did however dig Nimba and theres some gems on this one (if you can survive through the first two tracks) |
