nope.. it wasn't Astral Projection..
It's not like some guy was like "Heureka.. I've discovered trance.."
But trance evolved.. a little by little..

Well - the first trance musicians were Sven Vath and Har-El Pruski (a lot of debates at who started producing the trance music first have been here, but they did it in approximately the same time), later joined by SFX (later renamed to Astral Projection) in the 80s - but I don't think that they were the inventors of it, but rather, they heard an exciting new sound from some underground DJs which took tracks and loops electronic/acid music artists like Kraftwerk and created a totally new style, discovered in parties along the coasts of Goa. The most famous of these pioneers was Goa Gil, who is still alive, in case you want to know.
All this happened in the mid-80s. A lot of people want to give a specific name to who invented it, but I doubt many people know - it was just a natural evolution of sound.

vath, goa gil, sfx and, as far as I know, which is not much, many others that have not became famous, some people who were completely into the vibes and not into the $$$ and the fame.
There were not such a thing as a big trance "rock star".

I don't think that neitheir Kraftwerk nor Sven Väth invented Trance.
Kraftwerk is a pioneer-big name of electro ok but has zero relation to Trance.
Sure Sven Väth, with his labels do many things for Trance. But for me Sven Väth at first, was just a poor singer of a pop-electro band in the mid & last 80's named "Off" which major hit was 'Electrica Salsa', very lame one.
According to some people, Trance comes from England and was originally called "Space" at the end of 80's. I know that, the famous KLF band made an album project 'Space' under the name of "Space" in july 90.
For other people, the first trance track typical construction was produced in 1990 by Age Of Love (Bruno Sanchioni & Guieppe Cherchia) with the track Age Of Love. |

I know another track which can be related to trance from 1990 it's from the dutch Quazar (Gert Van Veen)"Seven Stars" on Superstition records. |
