Infected mushroom play as much live it can get in the psytrance scene, even tho they aint playing psytrance no more. Then we have some dudes experiment with loops and fx stuff during the sets, wish is cool, then the other 98% are just pressing spacebar having few beers and waving the hands. All 3 are alright imo.
But, if u take 3000€ for waving ur hands every weekend like some people telling me they do for a 1h set, u are just lazy and boring, often like the music they are playing.

IMHO the best is not to expect too much (regarding parties/livesets etc.), not to visit parties too much, and instead creating own music. At home, outside, in the train - wherever. I enjoy the new Psykovsky sounds, but I don't need to visit a party to listen to them.. Put it on the mp3 or whatever and go walk outside in the nature It's what I do with all teh muzik, be it an interresting new release on ektoplazm, music from old videogames, ambient, 80's rock, black metal, mantras, IDM, folk music,.. - I guess You get the idea. Never really needed a party or a gig or whatever it's called in it's scene, just to enjoy the music I enjoy to the fullest.. Of course this is not the same thing as the trance-dance-experience, which is more the topic here, but that's another discussion, and I'd just say that nowadays it's cool to visit as few (and well chosen) parties as possible, to ensure the experience. If somebody demands too much cash to play somewhere, well, we all have a mouth and it's use is to communicate! Plus, there is no need either to book a certain artist, nor to visit a certain party which is high priced because of 'known' artists playing at it. I feel comfortable with my headphones or 2-3 good friends at a peaceful and smooth place, but yeah I stop before it starts to repeat haha This is no command, nor an advice, just my opinion, and I hope for You all to enjoy music without limiting the pleasure just because of the live-act of an artist as it's been posted again and again in this thread, Psykovsky arranges the set before the actual party, and if someone thinks everything is played live, that's just an illusion ) peace out!

keep it real people ... artists are not supposed to step out and have a show down of words. it don't look too good ... it is not about first or who is better ... just about expression ... and like i said in another post ... do not say if u have nothing nice to say ... everyone needs to be a lil more humble here ... i don't wanna lock this thread ...
Live and let live all ya'll babaz and barbies, haters really go nowhere. Like mama one said if ou dont have anything good to day then STFU. haha and with that note, real parties are which dont post live and Dj's next to the artist name, otherwise too much ego involvedd; fo real...

You guys should use the search, this was sooo over discussed in the past.
In short, live act is when the artist plays HIS OWN MUSIC usually from his notebook. He may or may not use some other hardware. It is desired that he plays unreleased tracks and slightly different mixes of his released stuff, and that he adds some effects/samples/etc in real time.
When you read "Live Act" in a party flyer, you should expect to have what is written in the previous paragraph, expecting anything more than that is probably going to leave you disappointed.
Faking tweaking knobs is lame, and really makes you feel bad about that artist once you realize what he is doing...

lol. the "acting" fits the music.
i think the word clusterfuck as mentioned earlier in the thread should give its name to this new "style". it would fit perfectly http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel "I've always been a believer in musical repetition to draw in the listener and make the music hypnotic. well, what do you all suggest we no-name electronic musicians do when promoters reach out to us to do a "live" set? should we insist they write "showcase" on the flyer? should we point them in the direction of this thread?
I've tried to work out a Tom Cosm style of live set, but honestly I just don't have the time or enthusiasm to do it. I've got a full time job and I enjoy writing music way more than deconstructing it into loops in order to satisfy the few critics who have rigid definitions of what live music is.
I played a couple "live" sets, and while I did feel a little weird about playing a mix, I likened it to a gallery showing of an artist's work. For all of human history up until the 1920's or so, if you wanted to hear music you either had to play an instrument or watch someone who could. These days, music (especially electronic) is more like a painting which is hung on a wall. Would you go to a gallery showing and feel ripped off that they artist was not painting all of the images live? It would take months to see that...years, even.
Also, I've turned down some opportunities to play because I only have so many tracks and it takes me about a month to make a new one (like i said, i have a full time job). If i play at a promoter party (you know, the kind where the only attendants are scenesters and promoters) they will hear my whole repertoire and talk a bunch of shit if I play a similar set a month later.
I'm conflicted because I would like to play my songs for crowds, but I don't want to be called a fraud for not creating it on the spot. What would you do? I'm asking honestly, because I really just don't know.
For now I'm resolved to just being an internet musician. I write songs, post them online, and that is the end of it. Its kind of lonely, but what other options do I have with this form of music?
