Ok for me live music is actually ppl playing the instruments live on stage. Like a band.
Some dude fiddling with a software program, even if its tweaking midi or whatever is not live music. At most it's mixing some loops live, which is less than what a good dj does.

Having spent the last year getting to hang with one of the bigger crews touring metal bands here in Australia I was surprised how much of the shows is programmed & even has a track running in the background in case things go wrong.
I mean Fear Factory's current drummer cannot play the drums that systematically, so most of his drums for shows are programmed.
It's still considered live Elysium.
I consider the guy down the street with a cheap drum machine & his acoustic guitar live.
I dot consider some clown playing a complete prerecorded set in his laptop to be live though. That's the difference. At live if there is a live element, it's not live when it's a prerecorded set.
So your seriously think the bands that tour spend any less time perfecting their craft than a psytrance producer in his bedroom? Yet they actually do mostly play it live. It's all just laziness and the same tired old excuses.

^  I think the gist of the matter is psykovsky aint no live act. But if he is faking it on the stage then it shall be condemned by you purists. ?? no one cares about this and like someone said only a small percentage of people actually wonder and get deeper into the whole act of live/or even a dj mix. IMO It is a showcase of good music at the end of it. If he was really faking it as sphongle has mentioned then i guess the topic answers itself. "Dont go for psykovsky's 'live' show"

sorry but that is a load of bull. firstly, most psy acts are one guy not a whole band. secondly, electronic music is based on studio production techniques. for the layering, the design and the sound you simply can not replicate most of that live and reach the same quality - and playing some thing on top just so someone can call it live is stupid.

...because it's impossible to do all the sound design, the layering etc. in the studio before the gig and then either play or trigger or otherwise manipulate the sound as it plays live. Impossible. Can't be done. Don't let that Colin guy tell you you're just PLAIN LAZY for not doing it, what does he know. We've got a good gig going here - increased fees for less work than DJing our music. It doesn't matter that the public is being deceived with what it thinks is happening, that lie is our paycheck. Repeat after me: "live electronic performance is impossible, whether you have musical instruments on stage or not" - just keep repeating that and ignore the name of the software you use to run your playback set. No-one will know. And if people find out you're faking and are disappointed, just ignore them. Tell everyone the audience doesn't care and keep telling yourself the lie is making you more money than you'd get for a DJ set. That makes everything ok.
And whatever you do, keep believing that creating something - however small - that's unique every time is 'stupid'. Those people who talk about how great it is when the audience really gets that you're creating some of the sounds they're hearing in real-time, and how the reaction is really different, pff they must be on crack or something.
