im comin to us this yr applied and got into some colleges in which cities or areas ar ther strong psy scenes most of my schools are near chicago , ny ?? |

New York has a Psy-scene thats present in the City (Manhattan) and then there are some annual festivals like the Omnitribe Festival that is held in a remote region away from the main city. Besides this, there isnt much to see/do in New York (atleast none that I have heard of).
The psy scene in Upstate New York is virtually non existant. The Ithaca/Binghamton/Syracuse areas are devoid of any trance culture. I have been trying to create something in this area for a long time now. As you will see I have posted something on Isra that relates directly to that subject.

This is the "mecca" of psytrance in the U.S. Much like the West coast Chicago has parties on a daily basis. Collectives (groups) such as - Touch SAMADHI and AudioGnomes have been hosting parties in the mid-west for a long time. I have a friend who is a part of the Audiognomes and he has told me that these parties are incredible.

Dude, are you on crack???
Psytrance barely exists in Chicago and the Midwest. More recently, some collectives have been throwing occasional parties in Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, etc. Chicago had maybe 2 psy parties the whole of last year, though hopefully the scene is picking up.
If you want an active scene with a lot of parties, go to New York - there are big parties every other week or two and smaller ones all the time. Also, San Francisco and LA have really nice active scenes.

NYC all the way dude! Chicago doesnt have jack. I get to see much more artist here in new york than when i am back home in bombay. Nice idea of picking a college according to whr there is more psy-trance  gone r the days when ppl like me choose according to the weather conditions and ratings of the school...now u look out for the basis of more psy-fun haha... juss kiddin man  |

I'm in San Francisco and it's decent.
I'd choose NYC though. I love that city man. They have pink fluffy clouds! hahahahaha

Stay clear of Texas! I was there 2 years trying to mix psy with Willie Nelson. 
I say:
1) NYC (They get some really good gigs there)
2) SF (It's an awesome psy community)

Beware when u refer to the whole of NY as a trance-hub...
This is not true...
NYC is definitely the trance paradise with clubs like Avalon hosting the worlds greatest acts. But the rest of NY (state) is relatively dry, and devoid of psy-trance.
@Divraj
If u get into Cornell, u'll be right next to where I am. I go to IC which is the neighbour of Cornell.
Believe me there are no psy-scenes in that region of NY. Though if ur willing to travel to the city (NYC) u will be able to catch a lot of parties.

I didnt mean "chicago" was the trance mecca..I meant the mid-west was the trance mecca. sorry for that typo. the mid-west region has really begin a trance overhual and the trance awareness is picking up rapidly in the places that u mentioned.

CAli BABY! san franscico and outskirts of LA there are mad parties...its just hard traveling here.. thats the only fuck up.. also mexico is like 2 1/2 hours away from LA.. soo.. if ure really desperate some of the best parties are in Mexico.. so.. good luck wit ure colleges btw... |

I think you should actually go to the Midwest before calling it a trance mecca.
From what I know, there are small isolated pockets of psy in the Midwest. Granted, there are more of them now than a couple of years ago, but 3 or 4 small collectives in the space the size of half of Europe doesn't make for a 'trance mecca.' Midwest sucks, though it probably has a lot of potential. Big respect to those who try to push psychedelic culture there.
it would be a good place to have a huge 'east coast meets west coast' party, though.

For events in New York, try the NYC604 yahoo group and the Brainmachines site.
there's also a forum http://psytrance.us/ dedicated to psy in the US. It's not as lively as this section, though.
