I'm wondering who has been purchasing the DVDs usually listed on saikosounds and such? There are a few from Japanese festivals and such, usually with the Tip world sound that wouldn't interest me too much... now does anyone know if this is visual content synched with the music, or just festival footage and the like? Here are a few listed there...

Trance Visuals Vol.1 DVD Liquid Moods / Bitterlux Mediendesign [BLMDVD01]
Live In Tokyo DVD Son Kite / Digital Structures [DIGDVD01]
Shango Tour 2001 (NTSC) DVD Juno Reactor / Equinox [EQDVD-001]
Solstice Music Festival DVD & CD Various Artists / Solstice [SOLWDVD001]

Are any of these good? Is there a place to find reviews on them? Are there any other DVDs lurking out there on the fringe, underappreciated? I'm looking mainly for DJ material - pure music with visuals to go along... so far there doesn't seem to be much at all but I suspect the Syncrosect DVD is going to change all that... hmm, could this be the future??

What do you think?

I have the Solstice Music Festival DVD & CD Various Artists / Solstice [SOLWDVD001]. It's pretty good, but not 'great'. Me being from the US, its hard to see what these huge festivals are all about and bought it mainly out of curiousity.

The mr. peculiar dvd with syncosect does look nice, and I think it may be the future of electronic music. Its a great idea... especially for at home listeners, like me.

I too am very interested in the new emerging Psy DVD genre. I am more likely to buy a DVD than a CD - and await the development of the genre. I can't wait till the "Are You Shpongled?" level perfection of psychedelic DVD gets created!

I think the Solstice DVD is great..but I may be baised because I had such incredible peak experiences at these parties. Especially the 2000 party was quite a legend - a pinnacle of what a party can be - but unfortunately it's only captured briefly on the DVD. The DVD features mostly well-filmed and edited live performances..with slight visual effects....but it is not really good for DJ or VJ use.

how does the Vision Quest 2002 DVD compare? What about other DVDs? Please review them or share your opinions....

Hmm, interesting. So I suppose Syncrosect is like the first of its kind...

Brett, you cause me to think another thought... how would everyone like to see "Are you Shpongled?" re-released on DVD with synched visuals??? and, of course, other tried & true releases... here is a market that piracy would have no hold over (yet)!

I guess DVD is more expensive to produce and since there is so little money in this scene maybe of no interest to the artists.

Lets hope that Syncrosect is the first of its kind. I really liked the idea of that DVD and I would of course wanna see more DVD albums in the future containing individual visual videos for each track - and it's all on my DVD system           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

One of the problems well for me in buying these dvds are that they are for region 1 and region 2. I am in region 3, so it wont work for me.

If the DVD is not region free, theres codes or also called hacks that you put in your DVd system and you are able to see any region...

there are around 5-6 regions that were originaly made for DVDs I think...it's very simple actually...Region 1 DVDs are made only for the american market, Region 2 only for europe etc... So if you buy a DVD in America you can't play it on your european dvd player...I guess they made those regions for copyright reasons....even though I don't think it's really effective...nothing is...no one can stop piracy!...buhaahahahaha

sOft:

What Are Regional Codes
DVD discs contain Regional Codes which can be used to prevent the playback of certain discs depending upon the geographical area it is played in. The various studios and home video companies lobbied to make sure this coding system was a required part of the current DVD standards, because they wish to control how their DVD titles are exported to other countries. (For example, while a recent film may already have played theatrically in the United States and been released to the home video market, that same film may not yet have opened in some European or Asian countries.) In most instances, discs manufactured in one region will usually only play on players that were manufactured in that same region - this means that discs bought or imported from Japan will not play on U.S. players, and vice versa. However, the regional coding system is entirely optional, and discs without Regional Codes will play on any player in any country.

DVD Region Breakdown

Region 1 - The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
Region 5 - Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia
Region 6 - China
