For the first time in over nearly two decades I took some mind bending substances last night at a gig of a very well known DJ doing an 8 hour set. No psy trance, but I had a wonderful time. The music and small dose I took just put me in to an amazing trance with some very pleasant visual fx.

Who was the DJ, Armin van Buuren?

With the degre of variety in psytrance styles, there is something available for pretty much anybody (or for different times/moods). Sometimes I can't believe that tracks I listen to belong to the same genre. One day I enjoy Neo-Goa tracks by Filteria or Khetzal, some other time it may be classical Darkpsy of CPC or Forest of Atriohm, yet another it may be Full-On by "any artist whose name ends with -ix" . Speaking of Full-On, there is an amazing variety of styles just there. Compare the Israeli kind with anything from Naturall Frequencies. And then there is Terrafractyl (yes, I think his music is a variation of Full-On too).

Many people moan that the sub-gengres are becoming too specialized and formulaic. But what about all the work done on the borderlines? I personally find the Darkpsy - Full-On interface interesting. Tsabeat, more Darkpsy-ish; Wizack-Twizack and Koozer Mox, more Full-On-ish. Then there are people like Electrypnose, Ocelot and Overdream (Or Tsabeat / Sattel Battle changeling ) that can move between the genges.

I don't know about the Golden Age of Psytrance beyond what I read here, I was not there. In fact, my personal preference would be to forget the whole '90s decade entirely. But I think there is plenty of interesting stuff getting produced right now. Epecially if you listen to music for what it is n do not get into ideological wars of what BPM it should be or how much you have to mess with your tuning to make your DNA strands happy.

These days I find techno far more interesting, a much more broad sound palette and melody/harmony.

Psy is quite past it's prime, also the label ecosystem is totally destroyed which doesnt helpt to bring new talent to the festivals.

It may take a while for the whole scene to reorganize and come with something new at some time.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Really, like what?
Although there is some nice stuff out there, most techno bores me after 20 minutes or so.

Bedrock Records (John Digweed's label) is releasing some beautiful melodic & psychedelic techno over the last 3-4 years.

Henry Saiz is an amazing musican for techno & other styles. There's plenty out there. For a great perspective checkout the Balance Series @ www.balancemusic.com.au           Cuntus Maximus.

Thank you for mentioning that. Finnish psy is the only new psy I'm listening to these days.
Some of the young artists have the same raw, uninhibited, non- forumulaic, creative juice as those in the old days, afaik. Very exciting.

Mostly artist like Dominik Eulberg, Extrawelt, Max Cooper, Minilogue, Ryan Davis, and all the stuff released in labels as Traum, Herzblut, Systematic, Fields, Smallvile, Nachtstrom Schallplatten, Manual, etc.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Thanks, will check those out.
Apart from Eulberg and Extrawelt I don't know any of the other artists music.
What I did like a lot about Eulberg and Extrawelt is the use of analog synths, the sounds are very pleasing.

One of my latest discoveries is Frechbax:
