what is the deal with producers that go and play DJ sets sometime at the same party? occaisionally i find it cool cuz they may have some obscure tracks... but i've yet to hear the producers actually MIX anything. "here's some music i made... and now here's a set of songs i like"?

Look for Elik from the Good Karma production (boat). The guy learned the job well (he had some really good teachers), and I forsee a big future ahead of him.
Bom Elik! |

I think it's a question of earning money to be able to make more music. It's distorted, but that's the way things work here. |

I'll tell u why: most party producers r frustrated DJs. party time is a valuble thing and putting yourself on a party line up as a new and unknown DJ is a hard thing to do - u need to know the right ppl, u need personal charm etc. so- u make your own party.

Lets divide this issue into 2 types: 1. When a small-time DJ organizes a party so he can play in it thats: A. Pathetic, B. Totaly unprofessional. The party organizer should be available and focus on the technical flow of the party, and not disappear behind the mixer for 2-3 hours.
2. When a party producer turns to play as a DJ, and that's why I refered to Elik. The guy never thought about actualy playing, but now it seems it got into him, and he does it quite well actualy. Here I have no objections as long as you don't play in your own party (see above).

Shanti, Its good for the soul to be humble. Why Hasmatsot? I haven't pointed at someone specific here, and I dont intend to start now. Au-contre, I've given compliments...
I just believe that an organizer should concentrate in running the party (security, money, first-aid, police, people, etc'), and if he goes behind the mixer its like a restaurat manager starting to clean tables in the middle of service - he loses contact with the whole area.

Hey guys. You all got it wrong. When squid was talking about producers he meant Music Producers, Yozrim. he was talking about the studio men VS the Decks Jokeys. |

haha exactly... here we call the people that put on a party "promoters"...
when i say producers i am referring to what happened this weekend for example... uriel from wizzy noise played a 2 hour live set then hopped on the decks but didn't actually mix -- he just played some songs in a row... and probably got paid a whole pile for doing it too. if a promoter is paying for 4 hours why not make more of it live?.. even though wizzy weren't all that live anyway :/
from reading interviews with producers i've noticed a common thread: many don't actually listen to much psy/goa yet they are often asked to play DJ sets... i just wonder about that situation. it seems not right somehow...
but also, when promoters do shady things like put the headliners on from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 and then put themselves on right in between that REALLY sucks. a promoter did that in montreal when i went to see chi a.d. and b.o.t.f.b. and it was lame as hell. |

he played ok music... but in no sensible order... and it wasnt mixed... and i couldn't enjoy chi a.d. at all cuz i was too tired to dance by the time they came on [6am!!!] all cuz the promoter wanted to feel like a cool guy. |

Well, Mark Allen and Nick Taylor are two shining examples of producers that are also brilliant DJs. Being a producer doesn't automatically make you a DJ, but at least you can be sure that he has an understanding of the music, and that's a GREAT starting point. |

Add to the fact that mark was a promoter at some point as well, and you have the ultimate Trance allarounder. |
