Hello There

I was wondering if anyone would like to share what kind of initiatives / changes at indoor parties in their experience lead to better events.

Im not interested in theories, but things that have been tried and tested - Whatever it might be, that will lead to a better party experience for the people going.

Everything that represents "out of the box thinking" or perhaps, just policies towards drugs, music, advertisements, free entrence, lineups, music.....

In advance, thanks for the input

Kind regards

Krell

All bellow is MHO.

My advice, if you really have the initiative to give some parties with real changes and willing to achieve a batter party experience is:

- Make some cheap, but high quality party. If you have some REALLY trustable friends, call them, otherwise do it all by youreself.

- Make free parties, and invite people you know that really like the music or the "ambient" (people who like psytrance, malabarism, decoration, psychedelic art, ect...).

Obviously you'll need some money, so go out and work to get this money. DO NOT try to earn money from your small/underground/innovative parties, otherwise it's very possible you'll get yourself in trouble and LOOSE the freedom to make things the way you really want them to be. You want to have fun, not to have trouble. You want to make something special, not to make another commercial event.

What you will need:

- 2 CDJs + Mixer.
- Sound System.
- Build high quality decoration. (Buy some cheap and high quality materials and build them yourself).
- Some profiteless way to deliver water and some food to the crowd.
- Some DJ who will play high quality music, right from original copies, and FOR FREE.
- Lots of trash cans.
- A selected crowd, composed mostly of people who like psytrance, malabarism, decoration, psychedelic art, ect...

What you don't want in these parties:

- People that is there just for the drugs;
- People that is there just because they got nothing better to do;
- People who is there just to try to get laid.
- Violent and uneducated people.

That's my advice. Already tryed and confirmed: this work better than any commercial event, best vibes and a strong feeling of realization.

I have found that the better the collective energy is when you are setting up the party, the better the party will be when it is in progress. If you have a nice crew working together towards the same goal then this comes thru in a strong way. It is also important i belive to create an environment for people to play around. Nice decor, interactive art is good (and fun to make) and of course excellent sound system makes it that much better. Have fun "making" the party and much more will come.

Back in 1998 I went to an event here in Toronto that was something special, and certainly outside of the box. Around 7pm the venue was setup with tables full of pamphlets and information about the free Tibet movement, and there were a few speeches and then some yoga. Chill out starts the night and there was a fresh and healthy vegetarian meal provided for like $5. The beats started coming on and the night developed with a few live acts and DJs playing some true psychedelic tunes. The visuals were all nicely old school - oil wheels mainly. I love those things - digital projection is fine and all, but I do appreciate when a party goes analog like that. It's not too far out there, but simply linking the party with a cause and starting it off slow would be a really welcome change today. Everyone is so concerned about cutting off from society, but you can find a nice balance and give something back if you try hard enough. Back then it was still very fresh - nowadays you must fight against people's preconceptions, the habit of showing up at 2am, the notion that DJing is just performance and not art, and many other such widespread thoughts. Perhaps it could be done. Change can only be made incrementally in my experience. The worst a promoter can do is throw a losing event and then move up a scale and bring in an int'l guest or something. Master the small, medium, and then large-scaled party is my advice. Otherwise it's all cart-before-the-horse doom-and-gloom.

@ basilisk
totally dude.. dont know about the wheel part thou.. but pre partyvibing would just be incredible.. specially if there arelike funthings to do as well!

persoanlly i think the organisers job is to kindle the energy.. but the energy has to create itself..
however its true that the energy needs certain kind of nurturing ( i.e good place.. great music.. water and so on ) but all that can only tae a party so far.. the difference between the good parties and the fuckling crazy ones is when each person there adds to the experience.. and how do they do that?they give their own energy into the party.. dance their shoes off.. grin those teeth ear to ear..
people helping each other out.. people attuned to each other so that there areno invisible walls betweenpeople.. energy isonly amplified between one person to the other ..
so thats just my take.. the best initiative..
get your smiling best along..
leave the issues alone.. and by the end of the party youll see that those issues wouldnt matter anymore because youve just had the experience of your life

I have some changes in mind...
Free entrance to girls...but they pay twice if they have a boyfriend , and free beer for me.
Can't get any better than that.
