I think sets should be 3+ hours long. That way a DJ can really express himself, not just building up and getting everyone going. Timo&Ville at the D&E and Psy-Zion party played for over 6 hours, and that was awesome. Tsuyoshi played for 3.5 hours at Samothraki, and every second was in place. Tristan also played 3 hours at Samothraki, and built his set accordingly, and it was awesome (I don't think that if it was a 2 hour set like the usual at parties we would have heard SUN Project - Computer Breath there, and that was one of the peaks of the festival for me).

2 hours may be enough for a kick-in-the-face full-on set, but for a deep set (of any form of trance), the more the merrier.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

yup, fewer djs wins the day without any doubt at all... maybe if more line ups looked like that we might get past the "put all my killers in as short a time as possible" mentality which is evident too often for my taste...           >>love will tear us apart...<<

exactly. 3 hours minimum if u ask me, not less. at samothraki btw everybody played 3 hours, at progressive stage at least.
there is nothing worse than 2 hours set, esspecialy when u play it           Believe your soul !

I recently read a really good book called "Last night a DJ saved my Life" all about the history of DJing and the author makes the very good point that until "name" DJs came long you would often have the same DJ play all night. This gave the DJ the chance to build a set throughout the night and (Cliche time) take the dancer on a journey.

With two hour (or less) sets - everyone only has a limited time and wants to play their big tunes which can lead to the same sort of stuff all night. A guy I know commented on the SA Eclispe festival by saying he always knew when a new Dj had come on becuase you would hear "Are there any disco fans in here tonight..." - its a great tune - but not every two hours!!

I'm all for longer sets...
