Agree my first and last time in Paradiso was in new years eve 1998 and had the worst trip of all , i was dancing with my bag the whole night.... however when morning came the party really kicked off (the drunks were gone by 4 in the morning the cokeheads by 6 and the ketamine crowd just stayed floating till 11 in the morning... light at the end of every tunnel.

I mean, tourists can gather there, and leave you alone. - I mean, you cant stop Goa from beeing bombarded with dumb ass tourists, might as well have them gathered at one place, like PARADISO, right?

Like a dog cage or something I guess.

No PARADISO = More shitty people in your path disturbing your flight?

Sounds good in theory.
In practice it means that if people go to and support paradiso the police and officials get the bribes they need for them and they don't give permissions to jungle parties.

Unfortunally most people is not aware or don't care about the politics that goes on and if the jungle party is cancelled they will happily go to paradiso instead.
Hence in the last few years the jungle parties has become pretty much extinct.

if you are going for goa/india the answer is hell yes.

if you are going to look for parties the answer is no.

imo goa is an amazing place but if you are looking for parties only theres better places around the globe

Purely for parties it sure have degraded rapidly the last few years.

But over x-mas & new years it is quite sure that there will be a couple of events.
And if you happen to get to attend a proper jungle party it's really something special many times.

Usually I guess most people would call it darkpsy in the night and full-on in the morning, and many of the old-timers playing for sure have a good track selection.
But for those of you in to progressive....Goa have never been and hopefully never will be the place.

But it's a nice place and have a special vibe, so regardless of the party situation it's worth checking it out for sure.

Oran, yeah if I went all the way to goa I wouldnt go only for the parties, would be for the whole goa/india thing.. but I would like to go to a couple of parties just to check out, though, see the freaks, the chai mamas, etc...

and spindrift.. I understand what you are saying.. but I really dislike when you say "goa has never been and HOPEFULLY never will be"...

I mean, I dont ever expect to hear prog in goa because it doesnt seem to be the style of the place, but for you to hope it will never happen is a bit too much, dont you think?

I dont like full on or goa or dark psy but I respect that people like it and have no problems that parties have these styles, without extremes (like festivals with only killaaaargh full on)... I would expect the same sort of respect for other genres from people even if they are not into it

I think progressive is boring, and I like what Goa has been standing for musically.

So I don't see how and why I would not hope that progg never will become predominant in Goa and why that would be disrespectful to progg fans.
There is plenty of festivals in Europe that cater for them already and thats fine with me.

your post strikes me as a bit closed minded.. no offense though..

maybe im just a bit of a dreamer when I expect people to respect other genres and for diversity of music to exist, and not just wishing the other genre doesnt exist because we dont personally like it

Btw, prog becoming predominant, and existing a bit of prog here and there for those who like, it is quite different imo

well enough about this discussion... back to goa and paradiso...

Very often there is no other option than Paradiso.
When you have little choice then its allright especially in the morning.. when all the drunks have gone home.
Though the attitude of the bartenders suck

@sherlock
You are putting a lot of words in my mouth.
I said hopefully it will not be the place for progressive.
Not that progressive have no right to exist as you claim.
Where did I say "a little progg here and there " would not be ok?

It's not about disrespect or close mindedness.
I'm sure most progg fans think that hopefully their favourite progg festival doesn't one year turn in to a full-on festival.
That doesn't make them neither disrepectful or closeminded IMO.

The thing is that when you are going to their establishment you are helping to make sure there there will remain little choice.

If people refused to accept it as a substitute for a real party they would not earn enough money to pay the cops and officials.
But as long as paradiso pay them they to make sure there is no parties they will just say no to organizers who want to throw a one off in disco valley or bamboo forest.

When i visited Goa last year during off season paradiso was the only place on.
So at times like that there is no other option its either Paradiso or nothing.

So ... Lets say Paradisio one night just *poff* *gone* .. *No more*. Wouldn’t another shit club with other not so nice owners and employees just pop up? .. What if (hypothetical) I went down there, made my own club and gave Paradisio some good competition. Where the vibes are strong and the drunks are gone. Would I survive? Or would the owners of Paradisio bust my knee caps and tell me to leave? - What kind of power does Paradisio have.. Oh ah.. The cops. The bribes. That’s the power they have. Why is reality so cruel, why doesn’t a hero come along, why doesn’t the old Goa people do something. Is the situation so hopeless?

" Spindrift - Yeah, i agree. (I think Alien misunderstood you a bit, but Prog IS by far a much better alternative to Goa then alot of the other sub genres - And often, much more psychedelic substtance friendly)

Sad, i haven’t even been to Goa, and it seems I will never see Goa with the spirit I wish. I didn’t even see Christiania before 2003, and that was the year everything changed. I guess I'm just unlucky, but Oh so lucky I feel

the thing with paradisco is that it is "owned" by the government, so no matter whether you go there or not, it will always stay open the way it does. Drunks dont particularly enjoy that place either, most times the music is just too much for them to sanely bear and hence the fights, but when there is no other avenue possible, a clash of attitudes is inevitable.

Those who have experienced it, will tell you that after a couple of times, you wont go there whether you want to or not, preferring instead to support small private parties with their small sound.

Evenso, it is unfair to blame Goa's plight on just one club...that would be wagging the dog by its tail

In a way I guess you are right, but again the reality of the party politics is somewhat complex.
The right connections is a very important factor in getting the permission.
It's not a free-for-all or highest bidder scenario.

But I'm not saying the blame for the extinction of jungle parties is on paradisos owners.
IMO it's the party goers who just think about that they want to go to a party tonight and cannot see the consequences of their actions for the scene as a whole.
For their evening out there is paradiso or nothing so they go there, but if paradiso was empty there would be permissions given elsewhere.

It didn't use to be like that in Goa...people expected free parties in the jungle and trying to squeeze them into some concrete bunker and charging entrance fee simply would have been impossible.

In Ibiza and Thailand the commercilization was easy, but in Goa there used to be a strong spirit and people just didn't settle for anything less than the real thing.

It's hard to imagine the mentality at Goa parties, but it's the most selective crowd there is you can play for I think.
If you would try to play a progg set in a party there you would have to withstand a lot of intense mental abuse, that's for sure.

Goa has it's own very wild and psychedelic vibe, and basically if you like progressive it's just not the place to go partying.
It's like going to a club in Ibiza hoping to hear darkpsy.

Although I prefer darkpsy to house I'm not hoping Ibiza changes style.
It's nice that there is a house mecca like Ibiza, and it's nice there is/was a mecca for intense and twisted music like Goa.
