Ah..the weekly panning thread.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

C'mon, why does someone allways has to whine when a topic that has been talked about before comes up again?

Gutter -> Why are you linking to that? It does not contain any info about panning in general.

I actually wanted to create a topic like this a few days ago, but now I'm glad i did not do it.

The search engine here sux, so no wonder ppl keeps asking the same questions. Don't misunderstand me I love this site.

we can continue that conversation in the already sticky topic where lots of people can see it and have that generic topic/conversation with all the possible useful/useless answers and questions, this should be for bass, leads and every other sticky topic and if there are specific questions or troubles understanding something to be posted as new topics, simple
this way the search engine wouldnt be to much necessary

the mother of all panning thread and all others in there , if there are most questions / answers in there , there will be much easier for others to find them too instead of making same topics every two weeks

i dont really know what is the point of this question..(actually it seems like there is no question)

panning is not too complicated..if u want your lead to sound on the left side, turn the pan knob into the left,,,believe ur ears, do as u like...

plz be more precise in ur question:)           http://hauntedcastle.tk http://soundcloud.com/hauntedcastle

just think of "balance" when you approach panning. if everything is dead center, it's kind of boring and you have sounds sitting on top of each other fighting for space. if you have tons of stuff going on in the right channel, but there's hardly anything in the left, it will sound odd (unless you do this intentionally as an effect for a short period of time). panning is an effective way to fight "masking." if you have 2 big lead sounds, for example, with a lot of overlapping frequencies, simply panning them to opposite sides can be a quick way keeping their definition better (though this might not be enough on its own and it's better to rethink your arrangement, play 1 part an octave higher, or use filters/eqs to make them complement each other and the mix).

so just think of a well balanced stereo spectrum when you are panning your sounds.

If you talk about true stereo dual panning , wich is standart in cubase and protools for example..you are able to precise set the signal in the stereo field...

then you can easy avoid phase cancelations between two sounds..or make it moo compatible at all..lmb

but this just works really fine with stereo dual one, where you can set each channel individualy and not like in ableton the whole signal to left or right..

here is a nice solution for ableton..

http://www.dark-zlime.de.tl/Live-Downloads.htm

someone provided it to me on ableton forum..

You have 180 degrees in a stereo mix. Panning allows you to determine where your sound comes from within those 180 degrees. Think of it as a semicircle that is your given space.

There are almost no absolute laws when it comes to psy and panning, automation panning can be lotsa fun.

One example, you have 2 hihats that come on the same note with similar frequencies, pan one some to the right, the other about the same amount to the left, they both will become more present in your mix...
