i think some of the Ozric Tentacles's music is genious ambient\chillout and extremely psychedelic!
some of their tracks even pure psytrance....just without the 4\4 kick!
i'm just listening to "Become The Other(1995)" album....and i found that lots of synthesis work, acoustic& alectronic combo and arp melodies reminds me shpongle! may be OT their biggest inspiration?....who knows..!!
anywayz.....i'm just wondering why this band is not so popular in the psychedelic scene !
and why organizers do not inviting them to the psy festivals!
because as i said.....their have lots of chill tracks!

well, i think the band is popular in the psy scene.
and they have played at psy festivals f.e. at the sonica festival.
i've seen them twice live and imho they aren't as good live as on cd. but probably it's just me
the best albums from ot are anyways from '90-'96 so i'm not that interested in what they're doing now...

i didn't say they can't play or are not a good live act. what i said was that they are imho better on cd than live. maybe it's because ed's guitar is too dominant at live gigs or because the general atmosphere is more spacey on the albums compared to the rawness of the gig. can't really put my finger on it...
but i still think they're one of the best
bands ever. i hope that cleared things up
my top 4 ot albums of the 11 albums i have in a random order:
-arborescence (1994)
-strangeitude (1991)
-pungent effulgent (1990)
-erpland (1990)

I really really really like... a bit of what they've done, but at times they can be a little over self-indulgent.
The dubbier tracks are cool |

Ozrics are the reason I got into psytrance! Well, more specif... Eat Static, who I got into because of Merv Peplar (one of the original members of Ozrics).
SO Mk47 is quite right...I think Ozrics have a big following within the psytrance community!
Have you heard Gong?! Big influence on the Tenticles! Steve Hilliage from Gong is 777...but now i'm getting off topic...

i'm totally agree with you mukti777 )))
that's why i asked "why they are not so popular "
because in isratrance i'v heard about them really rarely
and their influence is obvious.....( i mentioned Shpongle)
more i listening to their music - especially to the old stuff - more i'm realizing that all those electronic sounds sooo fresh...and it was made before all those psy artists...with all due respect)))
p.s : tell me more about Gong and stuff like that plz www.myspace.com/aliasix |

yup. gong has been (so it seems or sounds) a big influence to ot. it's not the synth work ofcourse but composition wise the merging of different world music styles, rhythms and instruments with 70's progressive rock.
the gong material i've heard is more mellow
and not psychedelic in the same sense as ot is. the best way to approach gong is not to think about ot but take the music as it is (well, that applies to all music)
