The yearīs best release? Veterans are saying so. Ozmali is half part of Ozmali act, a live act from Netherlands.
This album contains 10 full-on tracks, all of them highly danceable and with an unique touch that makes Ozmali outstanding among this yearīs albums so far. The album was released as a continuous mix, and that makes it unique as it sounds a history told on the dance-floor, and a very beautiful one.
From the first track itīs easy to realise that Steve is an intelligent writer: he knows that what makes a psy track good is its bassline. And I assure you, all the tracks have GORGEOUS BASSLINES and rich, both uplifting and melancholic melodies to match it superbly. (Itīs good to have a little bit of heavy emotions to contrast with the current popsy-sugar trend).

1. Night Travelling (8:27, 144 bpm). The opener is a rocking track with elements from old-trance that an experienced ear will recognize immediately, I think that the bassline is what catches oneīs attention: gorgeous, beautiful, strong. Plus the somehow melachololic melodies is also a travel into time, when psy carried deep emotions. Nonetheless, its a 2009 track, fresh, with modern elements that are revigorating.

2. Serafijn, Dansen, Verboten (4:25, 144 bpm). In my opinion, the album best track, it caught my eart and I canīt stop listening to it. Itīs a pity that it lasts only 4 and half minutes. But itīs worth. Like the first track, the basslines are superb, it makes your body dance by itself. Plus, the uplifiting melody is also a precious gem.

3. XXX (3:59, 145 bpm). The shortest track is somehow a continuation of the first one, very stron kick. It features a distorted melody that sounds so good that it sticks into oneīs ear.

4. Martial Arts (5:50, 145 bpm). I am sure this will be the favorite one for a lot of Ozmali fans. Itīs at the same time energetic but melancholic too, well balanced and has again a powerful bassline and the melodies are so different from what we hear nowadays. In my opinion the second best track after # 2.

5. Helios (rmx) (5:48, 145 bpm). The second half of the album becomes harder from this track on. Helios is a techy track, with a galloping bass and sprinkles of effects here and there. Energetic, positive and danceable, one of the highlights of this album.

6. Dancing With Daemons (8:44, 146 bpm). A little dark track, as shown by its title. But do not think it belongs to the dark-psy ranks. Itīs dark on its own league. Again, a somehow techy touch, with strong bass, rapid effects and a sparse melody all along.

7. Petite Chevre (7:40, 146 bpm). The most melodic track of this album, itīs also one that reminds so much of the golden age of psytrance. Here we have a continuous single melody from start to finish, and a demmanding bassline.

8.Psiegedelies Kunstenaar (7:35, 147 bpm). This track is abreast with #2, melodic and positive, strong and highly danceable. I like the rich bass very much, and the melodies could be a little more uplifiting. But itīs a outstandign track nonetheless.

9. Vaxac Kawak (6:22, 147 bpm). A continuation of the track above, but less melodic and a repetitive bass that is very trance-inducing. The effects in the beginning of the track are so rare nowadays that the track itself is worth just for them.

10.Kata Rei (7:38,148 bpm). One of the most hypnotic tracks I have heard in a long time, Kata Rei is simply superb, be it for its melody, the always gorgeous basslines or for the general feeling it sends. Thereīs a somwhow arabic melody behind the track which is exotic, very beautiful.

The art cover and booklet are humble, and thatīs ok with me.

You can have a taste of Fusion Forest at

Wirikuta
Beatspace
Goastore
Freakdance
Juno Records
Saikosounds

I think this album is simply wonderful. It was the FIRST ALBUM I bought this year, because I am an obnoxious psy-fan and I canīt stand anything that is not simply superb.

10/10 for this album. A must-have if you have good taste.

Congratulations Steve, keep rocking!

holy sheeet!! I just listened to the saiko previews... this album is ridiculous!! I'm a darkpsy lover myself.. but this definitely accurately mixes darkpsy, fullon and prog successfully. the dark noises and hypnotic basslines are out of this world. I have to get it!

Who's Ozmali ? => Few infos about the artist, except he's from Amsterdam & he's calling Steven. Indeed Ozmali is a multi talented artist : producer, live act, dj & deco artist. His musical style is Forest Psychedelik which means happy, colourfull & psychedelik

How about Ozmali Records ? => As a whole complete thing, let's say it's quite normal that Ozmali Records pop up from Ozmali's brain.

Forest Fusion , what kind of musical trip ? =>

Night Travelling, We've got an happy & bouncing tune in guise of opening for the album. There's some soft tones typical for rocking babies (this kinda of "carillon" also appears on track 8. Quite important to notice in the Ozmali's work, it's the important use of many samples: animals, movies, music, cries etc..

Serafijn Dansen Verboden => The bouncy side continues, this time with less melody than previously, the focus is based on the psychedelik soundscape.
With some patience you'll get the mischievous melody.

XXX => Interesting construction with a little by little evolution to its climax. The colouration is slightly colder & more dedicated for the night time. In terms of emotion, it reminds me something dancefloor, very living, intense & paradox, cold such as "Element - Coldcut", the psychedelik dimension added.

Martial Arts => The tones are harsher, sharp here. It's sounding repetitive, indeed too much for me, that's a pity :/
My main worry comes from the sounds, i don't find them particularly entertaining or easy to dig. The samples employed for the transition with next track are really fucking good & funny, i don't spoil more

Helios Rmx =>There are Funny old school music samples used which perfectly matches, integrates the tune, there's a special spirit that reminds me here some quite dancefloor &/or experimental productions from Eat Static (respectively City of Sin & Critical Mass).

Dancing with Daemons => The construction is common from Parvati's productions alike which means not very melodic, more based on a selection of sounds with appropriated effects, last but not least, a preponderant role of the bassline all along.

Petite Chevre => Ozmali offers a very atmospheric production based on a modified subtle loop of anthem from "Art of Trance - Kaleidoscope", at the end (7"24) Ozmali places also a twisted sample of kinda Beach Boys sound, once again funny.

Psiegedelies Kunstenaar => In the weirdo' meter, we're reaching the highest level of the album (especially for the congas break around 4"00), the soundscape is totally twisted, mad & falsely uncontrolled of course .
Many samples are used here conferring the tune its thickness.

Vaxac Kawak => We keep going with the same bassline as in previous track but up tuned, btw it's the whole song that results faster & punchier. Furthermore the global feeling is completely hypnotic.

Kata Rei => For the final, Ozmali has cooked a cinematographic influenced tune due to the massive presence of a long movie's music sample. That's a quite big change in term of musical emotion delivered, this one tends to be more oniric, magical nevertheless he keeps a fat psychedelik output through massive effects on bleeps,
sweeps & creeps

Sum up => There's an important point, i'd like to mention here: the order of the track listing. I advice to listen in the predefined order of the album due to a very slight mix between end & beginning of tracks. As a matter of optimized enjoyment, respecting this frame will increase your perception for the first listens. Of course after, free & up to everybody to choose & listen the tracks in any free order .

I made a quote-reference from a "retired" psy artist from the scene in my last description , that's not fortuitous : I consider Ozmali as a respectful successor of Weirdo Beardo, the style is not exactly the same but i've got the same nice & positive feelings while listening to their happy psychedelik & quite melodic colourful productions .

I just wish Ozmali to release some other inspired albums, as this debut is refreshing enough to hit the scene & make a name decently rated.

The full real name of Ozmali is Steven Hekkeleheikever, for the moment it's his unique project...

I've searched on discogs : no results displayed.

Razzz you're true it was recorded in a single jamsession so, in a way i understand some dislike it & others (like me) appreciate it for the same reason coz it really impacts the sounding...

i like it. not everything, but the genius parts make it worth it completely. very fresh sound. not typical at all. it plays with things quite a bit.

theres a minimal aesthetic to it somehow- that jam thing you mentioned. its a plus in this case...
and if its made live as they say then he will easily be able to play it live and play around and get crazy with it.
