Hey, I got offered a place at brookes, and I'll be going their, I was just wondering are their any psy parties down their? If I'm not wrong I saw something here about some party in oxford, does that happen often?

I know that its nothing big, but it will be fun to get to know some people from oxford that like psy, that way it will be some company to go down to london when their are parties going on.

hello neutron,
well.. when i was at uni in oxford there was not so much psy stuff going on.. so i thought this sucks and started smthing (more correctly i tagged onto smthing that already existed but didn't play psy) this smthing is baraka and it happens monthly during term times (with a bit of luck )it has been going for a longish time (5 years) and is not exclusively psy as we wnat to alternate styles a bit.. but it will be psychedelic about every couple of months.. indeed the next one which is on the 11th of october is a psy bash with me and Spencer from alchemy recs providing the soundage...

check our web page at www.antiworld.net/baraka
for more information.

in addition there are free parties around ox fairly frequently though these tend not to be just trance...

finally, there are quite a few psy heads in oxford.. i could certainly introduce you to any number in october

hope this helps

Nahh they'll have anyone. Except it's not around anymore.

I think Phil Biscuit and his people might be starting Shikasta again soon, which was a small but intense back-of-pub affair.

Mate there's loads of pys heads in Oxford, never worry! It's a wicked place to live I'm sure you'll have a blast.

So far, my experience at brookes has been horrible, bunch of stuck up birds. and did manage to get tickets to the freshers week, so looking at making friends i can forget that for this week, my last hope of making this week good is to get a train/bus to london and go to fairy tales (alone) but hey who care, ill enjoy my self.

anyone from oxford doing the same?           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." Thea Alexander

I knew someone who worked at Brookes & she said that research had been done on why students chose it - sadly enough a significant proportion of women had chosen Brookes as they intended to meet a prospective husband who was as Oxford Univ while living in Oxford!!

There are lots of wicked people at baraka, it's true!

also the psy trance soc is still around, just been taken over by a new but equally psychedelic person! - her name is miranda, and she will be at baraka for sure. otherwise you can speak to me or tom anteater there!

and most importantly: baraka is now ALL psytrance (finally!) with some wicked chill out and no hard trance!

Really looking forward to this... back to the old city once again! It's going to be good to be able to play some of the more chilled Unconscious Collective tracks that don't often get a play.

I lived in Oxford for 11 years from 1989 and shared a house with the people who started the Brave New Dance Society at Oxford Brookes in 1993 - we used to put on a couple of parties a term in various Brookes buildings and had some good old times. Check out http://www.brookes.ac.uk/student/union/societies/bnd/BND.HTM for a blast from the past.

Colin, is this society still running? cuz the closest thing that I saw to trance regarding societies was the bass (drum n bass) society and I dont want to be part of that society lol           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." Thea Alexander

Ok -

I was at the Ox uni freshers fair today helping mark out with the psytrance society stuff. There was plenty of interest. Hello Dan, hello Jon and Colin, I must say it's truly heartwarming to see everyone coming to the aid of Neutron here.
Neutron, you have no worries. Get yourself over to Baraka tomorrow and seek out dan, tom, Mark particularly (it's his night). I know what you mean about Brookes, but when I started in Oxford uni I thought that I'd never find anyone sound *there*, and I only knew Brookes people!
It's tricky moving to a new place. But you'll be ok. Just introduce yourself as the guy off Isratrance!

Peace
