I've just been listening to too much psytrance lately... So much as that I don't get surprised by nearly any track I hear nowadays. This caused me to rediscover a few bits of my old music collection (not my psytrance one), and noticed how many elements from older electronic music are going into 'modern' psytrance music.

Leftfield - Leftism was a lesson in happy grooves in comparisson with most psytrance today, yes, it has it's cheesy moments (much more so than in psytrance), and it's much less serious, but not in a bad manner.

And then I listened to Der Dritte Raum - Hale Bopp, and I thought to myself... this is how the psytrance scene would sound today with less house influence. Is this where we're heading? It sure seems that way. Is it a bad thing? No, that's some wonderful music. It's not psytrance though.

So with mixed feelings, I'll just go and listen to some The Orb now. Be back to listening to psytrance in a couple of weeks after I enjoy some electronic classics. There's a lot to learn there.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Been there, done that. Such a familiar feeling.
I'm listening to so many genres at the moment, there's no 'best' genre for me, and psytrance is at the same place as Tango, black metal or Ambient for me. I like them all the same.
Maybe im not a fanatic anymore, but im good like that. I feel like I've discovered a whole new world, and it's beautiful.
I'm not sure if I miss the phase when I listened to Psy only, I assume I don't since I've discovered such beautiful things which are a shame to miss.
So ya, it's good to open your mind and explore sometimes and extend your mind and variety.

Re-listening to old Orbital like 'Remind' is a trip... that stuff sounds Goan to me!
I've had that overdose feeling as well, but find a cure in listening to the classics... just discovered a remarkable CD recently - Ololiuqui's Dito - as well as other overlooked singles here and there... it's still a bit perplexing to see how Goa has 'evolved' from deep spiritual music into 'LETS TAKE SOME MESCALINE!!!'

...

I find Jazz has the complexity and variation of sound that has had me so enthralled to the Goa sound, so it makes for a nice substitute... there are so many varieties to try out...

What I've been talking about lately?
Everything is the same and not surprising anymore. So I'm going back to old music and other music. Actually I bought today a compilation from 1998 called Astronomic Trance from a local record store, sounds amazing. And new music - club trance, and some other genres I hear on 88fm and I have no idea what is their name.
