I love psy trance.

But I realized that psy trance is the only NEW music I get these days, everthing else I listen to is soooo old. And I am not even talking about the really old music like pink floyd, led zeppling, hendrix, beatles, etc which I also listen too.

I am talking about the bands that I thought were sort of newer but that now I realize time has passed and are all old now. I mean bands like Red Hot Chilly pepers, depeche mode, janes addiction, the cure, sublime, beasty boys, massive attack, cypress hill, dire straights, Pearl Jam, Portis Head, Stone Temple Pilots, Depth Charge, Morcheeba, Enya, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, dead can dance, Tori Amos, Nirvana, Prodigy, etc

You know what I am saying? Like what are the good bands like these above but that are in their peak today? Like where is the edge of cool music outside psy trance today? PLease I would love to hear your recommendations.

And the reason I ask here in a psy trance forum is because I want to get recommendations from people that are on a similar mindset that I am.

And I would love to start with some recommendations myself but I live in a fucking psy bubble and is precisely why I am asking for some recommendations. I want to expand my horizons and get a little freshness and contemporary updated edge going here. Plus I think it would be cool for everyone here to bounce some recent musical finds that are cool these days from around the world.

Anything NEW you think is the good shit today outside the realm of psy trance.

There was another thread about non-psy music you like to listen to but this one is specifically about NEW NEW NEW artists, yeah from recent years that have the edge, orginallity, talent and are hot and at their peak right now like all these artists I mentioned were about 10 yeas ago.

Hope you can help with a few names.

mmm... the last band i got really excited about is The Mars Volta. i just caught on a couple years ago but there first releases were in 2002. they kinda grew on me. i didn't love the music immediately but there was something that made me keep listening to the albums. i am tired and depleted from this weekend so pardon the vague description and less than enthusiastic recomendation but check out Frances the Mute and De-loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta.

Skinny ! defiantly a gem missed by all http://www.discogs.com/release/804287 - Not new NEW, but newer then all the 90's band you mentioned. I guess I kind of dropped out of music when I found psychedelic trance. Kind of sad, hmm.

I know you said you wanted 'new' artists that are in their peak right now. Although Tool isn't new at all, in my humble opinion they're still in their peak right now with '10,000 Days' which was released in 2006, and together with 'Lateralus' (2001), Tool harbored their two best albums up to this date. I'd recommend anyone to give it a listen. Tool has a sort of psychedelic approach to their excursions, and the band has cooperated with Alex Grey and Bill Hicks (R.I.P.) a few times among others for example.

yeah, fuck yeah, listen to kArO! i can't see much connexion between TMV and the bands aluxe mentioned, but if you want to listen to some divine music, TMV are gonna serve you well indeed

i was having exactly the same problem as you until like a year ago. i counteracted this by starting to read a few alternative music magazine, and through that i got to know some bands which i count to my favourite bands nowadays...like:

The Mars Volta
Portugal. The Man (check this out!!! they have just released their debut last year, and i think we're gonna hear more of them!)
Mono
Isis
Porcupine Tree (new album coming...)
Sam Roberts
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
La Ira De Dios
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Sophia
...

...or you could also check out the thread Neo Psy-Rock

I recently got my hands on a couple of releases of Thom Brennan. The guy makes some great ambient music. Listening to "Strange Paradise" from "Secret faith of salamanders" now. Excellent stuff!           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Great recommendations, but Suomi and Aida please keep the suggestions limited to only NEW stuff coming out these years. That is the point of the thread.

I know bands like the prodigy, dead can dance, depeche mode and the Chilli Peppers are way cool(love them), but these are (sad to say) OLD bands who had their best years about 10 years ago. But what is hot and new today???? The point of the thread is to step out of the outdated music bubble and find out which are the NEW artists that have an edge and are cool and at their artistic prime/peak these days.

So please ONLY NEW RECENT bands/artists to keep the thread on topic.

So cheers and thanks very much for your input everybody
