i was born outside of boulder the area is pretty gorgeous with the mountains but turn around and look the other way and it might as well be kansas for 500 miles. The winters can be windy and cold and the summers are dry and hot but there is beautiful landscapes and clouds. if you are coming from minnesota the cold shouldnt bother you too much. From my minimal knowledge the scene there seems to be underground and family style but ive met some really ace people from that scene. Im pretty sure denver being about 45 minutes away (i think) has plenty of other genres. CU is a rather large university in boulder so i assume the job and apartment market is pretty competitve all year except you might get some leeway if you move there when the univerity isnt in session. If its like eugene many of the collegers go home in the summer and plenty of jobs and apartments pop up. as far as the culture of boulder you can go donwtown and see street performers... i saw a jamaican put himself in a plexi glass box that was about 2'x2'x2' and i held a tight rope made of toilet paper that the guy "got from the puplic restroom". while he balanced and juggled on it. then if you wanna meet some ... uh how to put this.... uh ok the courthouse lawn is a place that has things and people hang out there with those things. its a very active liberal town but i think the meathead percentage is higher than most liberal towns. so i dont know for sure i moved when i was 10 and have visited twice since then so my knowledge is a little outdated. plus ive never lived or worked there.

Boulder is "Silicon Mountain" - the major tech center in between Boston and Silicon Valley. Vibrant startup scene and investors, and there are endless corporate / agency jobs in Denver. There is a little bit of psy here (Twisted tour next Friday!) and more breaks and jam music. Kind of off topic for "Oregon Psy Scene" - but drop me a PM here or on Tribe.net and I will be glad to tell you more details, if you're interested. |

well after hearing some of the artists that run rampant in Oregon, I'd like to check out some parties out there. The musical style is directly up my alley. I think it would certainly be worth a flight out for a party every now and again. |

As far as trance events around Portland, this summer has been fairly mellow. All focus now is on the Goa Gil event happening on Sept. 19th-20th which typically marks the end of the outdoor season up here. This is our 9th year w/Gil&Ariane and always guaranteed to be a killer time.
We'll also be starting an indoor monthly in the fall which will certainly feature all the locals. |

I like how the thread has progressed from 'psy scene' to 'advantages and disadvantages of certain cities.'
That's the key here: can you personally jive with the advantages and disadvantages of a city? Go there and spend some time, do you really have that feeling of being 'at home' there?
Arguably, as far as climate is concerned, the Yay Area is as good as it gets, period. It's 'Mediterranian' latitude belt and its near the ocean. Basically unbeatable in the US. However, we all know its downsides (mostly cost of living and competitive job market).
So then, alternatives....its what you jive with.
