Headstick Press Release :

"After releasing on labels such as Spirit Zone, Moonflower,Loopspnoo and Many releases on ZMA (including a full length album named "time means Nothing") Opsis comes back hitting the electronic scene with a new version.

The album includes 11 new tunes. The first 8 are 4 on floor ground breaking techno industrial. with submarine basslines, distorted percussions and cinematic atmospheres. The three last make a mini EP inside this release, offering experimental, lounge and ambient made for homelistening.

Panayotis Pateronis is the man behind those machines. Born and raised in Greece, Opsis toured around to gain experience for this album. He worked on it for over a year to achieve these high results to tickle different types of brain cells.

_____________

Here's my overview of the album :

1: Computer, you can trust me : This tune starts off with a cool sample of a computer voice, until its twisted and turned into the begining of this powerful kickbass. Here we go, the ride starts off with a heavy track, fast paced tune. This one brings back those Cybermancy memories, with that evil, industrial bassline, until those techy, opsis sounds start the tune's groove. A massive dancefloor invasion.

2: Hotel Real : After hearing so much about this long awaited release, i finally got the chance to lay my ears on this one. Now i know what all the talk was about. This crossbreed of Skazi and Wizzy Noise makes for one of the best tracks on this album. With Skazi like reverse kicks and hat sounds, but yet, wizzy noise like melodies (if we refer back to those cybermancy days once again). Once the main lead's start up, you get a little reminder of opsis's first album, but yet, with a Manibus touch behind it. Yes, this tune was created with the help of Nicola Vlaovitch (Manibus). Evil Bassline, evil melodies, evil track.

3: Essential needs no introduction, and the title is quite ironic when thinking that it's essential on this album (being the tune released on the Moonflower compilation). I loved this tune the first time around, and for those of you's that still didn't hear it, you'll be happy it was on this album. Its machiny feel, yet groovy structure combined with a pinch of dancefloor makes this track also one of the more powerful tunes of the album. A must for getting the crowd ready to stomp.

4: Cash Machine : Starts with a wierd sample, discolike, but very quickly it turn's into a phat bassline. It somewhat makes me think of the twisty hat sound found in Midi Miliz's AEROMODE release. A very driving tune, with the trademark opsis rolling bassline, yet a soothing trance melody. A very special track i must say.

5: Opened and Examined : Alot more techno, alot less soothing trances.. hehe.. Very crunchy, very bouncy. Very opsis. Fucked up perc's and mind boggling echo effects, with huge breaks, and sick turnarounds. total night time music.

6: Just like Breathing: This track sounds like it should have been found on the new X-dream album. It sounds like a tune generated in a science laboratory, with glichy, beeping sounds, very intense and interesting trance layers, with a slight gothic turn to it..

7: Fat Bastard: Techness, a fun progression, a great heavy morning tune. This one takes us for a journey into time and space, with almost uplifting sounds, yet still such an evil touch to it. You either like it or hate it.

8: C.O.D. : The last of the 8 massive dancefloor smashers. Opsis finishes off his listeners with another heavy kick driven tune. With tamtam snares and pan'ed atmosphere's, Opsis does it again reminding us of those warped melodies found in "Time means Nothing" (the track not the album). Only this time, we can follow the kick

9: Parasites : This is the first of the three experimental tunes found on this album. If you like the more dubby tracks found on the DOWNHIL album, there's no reason why this one won't tickle your mind. Staticy goodness.. hehe.

10: A place called Birth: This is a more loungy track, with a very soft feel to it. although its more uptempo'd that the previous tune, it is brighter and more joyful.

11: Project Mayhem : the final track of this album and a great outro if you ask me. I think this can be called ambient, because it has a very large atmosphere, with a twisted direction. Would fit great with some "Resident Evil" on my PS2.

All in all, this is a great album and a must for all Opsis fan's.. This album sounds a lot better produced than the first opsis album which some say sounded like "music out of a Can". Well, he sure showd us who's boss with this one, making those kicks heavier and easier to mix. Great work Panayotis and thanks for the poster, it looks great on my wall..

I'll post a more detailed review later, but I have to say that this is a fantastic album! It seems to me that the "tech-trance" artists like Opsis are the ones who are least cornered by musical boundaries these days and really put out the most creative tunes. Very encouraging to hear releases like this one.

Here are more comments for this release

Arne Schaffhausen- MidiMiliz/Spiralianz (G+/Boshkebeats)
Dr.Opsis in full effect! Probably his best work up to date. The Man and the Machine is a heavyweight
tech-trance release which will knock you out! Industrial and aggressive beats meet sci-fi sentimentality...

Jan Muller- X-dream/Prime Suspect (G+/Solstice)
The Man AND THE MACHINE is an album who's name is a diffident reflection of it´s sound.
With an interesting combination, OPSIS injects stompy machine like loops juxtiposed to unique melodies and sequences...cool.
4 Sure, Opsis is an artist with a promising future

Alex Tolstey (Boshke Beats/G+)
" Opsis's new album is into more industrial direction of the classic techtrance standarts setted by the genre's godfathers such as The Delta and X-Dream ."The Man and The Machine" is a minimal cinematic traditional psytechno album that takes you to the journey to both industrial and psytrance worlds."

Holeg- (Aurinko)
"Travelling without moving might be where the Machines lead Humans. Actually, this is what happened to me listening to OPSIS new album.
Some may say it is dark but in my opinion one should not talk about darkness for deep music. This album is definitely deep and I will support
it with the killer dance floor waves produced by this talented composer from Greece"

Triac (Moonflower)

Yaniv Tal (Cosmophilia /Hadshot)
Strong tech trance in the tradition of X- DREAM, MIDIMILIZ, THREE POINT TURN, DELTA... the market have a big hole when it comes to this style what makes this release vital.

"Computer...You can trust me" some sly female voice tells us in one of Opsis's typically spooky existential voice samples, but I may never trust a computer again knowing now the dangerous sounds one man can make with his machine.
Is this music "dark"? NO! the sounds of old and new, industrial and not-quite trance light up the room any time I play this disk for friends, and the ambient denouement brings that glorious after-party glow into my house.
Also, my girlfriend says the whole thing is sexy, so everybody is happy!
