what do people think about someone shooting video at a party. I of course would be as discreet as possible but do you think it would take away from the vibe if someone were standing near you with a camera, tripod etc. next to you. in other words would you lose the ability to be as free as you normally would at a party because thats essentially what i wish to capture: the pure freedom of trancedance.

thanks in advance....

video cams might take freedom from everyone... depends on the person.

some might start feeling closed.... others, will try to make a better show...

in any case - hoping for everyone to be natural , when tey know they are being video recorded is false.
Today's parties, the small video cams are barely seen - so I don't even think about video recordings...           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

ROTFL

I think video cams are ok if placed properly, for instance behind the dancefloor If someone takes a camera and moves it through the dancefloor that always sux...just keep it nicely hidden           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

The key is to respect people's privacy.... Not all people want to end up on video or for that matter photos.

Depends who's filming...
Psy people I don't mind that much. Might be a nice way to get memories of beautiful moments. Especially if you can find it later on the net (and if I'm not too wasted on the video...)
But media people, it's different (still I've got only how they look like to judge at the time...) They often don't understand what's going on and you never know what they will do with the footage. They might use it against the scene. One more time, about drug abuse and the usual shit...

Friends of mine were interviewed by a french journalist in Zambia. All that was kept on the final film was to say people at the festival were some kind of rich degenerate westerners having fun in starving third world country...

i agree with trip...
i think that being infront of a video cam do make a change in the mood.
it also changes the ppl behavior.

but... its nice to have some memories.           just flow baby... just flow...

Excuse me going off-topic

It's actually quite true since most people with less money dont really have the means to travel to places like Africa to party - And it's true they are starving and I seriously doubt it's the starving local people that organise the parties - Without having any facts I dare to clame that in South Africa the majority of party organsiers are white more well-off people

I have often wondered what the locals actually think (in Goa too) when they see all these people invading their areas and privacy throwing around with dollars and loud attitude. I know many are respectful toward the local communities but unfortinently there's also quite many of the typical turist types that think they can impress the locals with their money. I have heard stories from friends visiting Goa. Stories about Europeans, Isralies and Americans treating the locals very disrespectful.

So to make along story short..... I quite see what the French Journalist is trying to point out (without actually knowing anything about the mentioned situation and party in question)

thanks for the comments people. insightful as always. . .I was just thinking about taking my equipment down to huxflux in ny. both to capture memories for myself and other people at the party as well as to get footage for a short documentary on countercultures in the US.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Here's a lovely story - a friend of mine was at this party, having fun you know and haven't noticed the cameras around him, acting natural...

Aparently, the video tape made it to the TV and was broadcasted on the weekend news, as a part of the story of drugs in parties.

My friend is sitting there with his parents, watching TV while having dinner, when his face, trashed as a penguin appears on screen.

The rest is history

I don't mind the cams, video, stills, whichever, as long as they don't use a flash or a light to shoot. I hate the light!

Please REMOVE my cellphone number from any SMS spam list you may have. Thanks.

i dont think thatll happen this time. although if i do do it it will be posted here!!!! so ppl can see how the freaks do it in ny.

i understand about the light. being discreet etc. thats the key i suppose. With good intentions and respect for others i think it should be fine.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

You shouldn't film people at parties without asking them first.

I'd be so mad if anyone filmed me without asking me first, and I know less fluffy people who'd be likely to take your camera from you and break it.

I know 9 times out of 10 it's probably innocent, but it makes people uneasy and is not a good idea.           "One nation under a groove".

IN my opinion theyre identical.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.
