Hi good people :] :] :],

Last Friday was my first party with earplugs in a while and I gotta say I advocate them. Everything sounded much better and my ears were happy happy! I never wanna have ringing in my ears after a party EVER. Even though I figure with time tinnitus heals.

Person. But Moonclear, they say tinnitus never heals.
Moonclear. But person, brain cells regenerate and there is life on other planets* (*-this from the media). So how do you feel about that?
Person. It has a better vibe.
Moonclear. That's awesome, and ponder earplugs as well, and have a nice day.

PEACE

make sure to get the attenuator earplugs and not the ones that block out certain frequencies.

I <3 my etymotic earplugs, never go to a party without them. Can't believe I went to parties for SO LONG without            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Custom-fitted earplugs: $200.
Not losing your hearing from too many doofs: priceless.

I have been using a pair of hearos for like 15-20 bucks. I really can't bear not using them. I forgot them at the last fest I went to and I have been paying the price for weeks. ugh

I've never worn earplugs, but since I have bad hearing already, I just figured earplugs will make it more muddy-sounding.. when I really enjoy a crisp clear nighttime bassline! And harder to talk to people when you've got loud music and earplugs in.

I feel like for outside parties (IMO) it's okay to not wear earplugs because the sound waves aren't echoing off walls. But inside clubs with enormous sound systems, it would be necessary.

I remember one party in Brooklyn a few years back with Orestis.. the party was great but it was so loud that you couldn't enjoy the music and I usually like Orestis's music, but he needed to turn the volume down to make it sound right (which Fria did during her set..) it's the dj's responsibility to recognize that the sound is either too loud or too soft (unless a noise ordinance is in effect) and mad respect to people that turn it down a little in situations like that. That night when I walked outside for a cigarette.. every time my ears were feeling like I actually had earplugs lol.

Danrenn. Get some earplugs.

The good ones don't block out any frequencies you want to hear - they just turn the volume down. You can listen comfortably.

You also don't need to spend $200. I don't have $200 for earplugs - but I do have $10 for the etymotic ones that are super great.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

When I first began going to concerts/parties, I would always have a bad case of tinnitus the next morning. After time and going to many other parties, I rarely have any ear problems whatsoever. I believe that the quality of the sound system plays and important role. The last time I had any form of ear problem was from a "modest" JBL system that was turned up to full blast.           http://www.eatpulp.com/

maybe its because you've damaged your ears so much that you can't tell the difference anymore

Seriously. Anyone who goes to parties frequently and does not have earplugs is a fucking moron.

You like music right? I assume you would like to hear it as best you can for as long as you can.

Protect yourself.

The sound system does make a massive difference. For instance, a Funktion One is so clear that I don't need earplugs and I experience no ear strain (though I should probably wear the earplugs anyways, and I do sometimes) - but that's the only speaker setup in the world that I've heard that can get away with that.

just because it sounds clear and nice and cozy doesn't mean it's not damaging your ears            WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. I don't go to parties all that often...my hearing is also excellent for my age, so I gotta disagree with the previous points made.           http://www.eatpulp.com/

People tell me this, and I believe them as I'm no expert on hearing loss However, on every other speaker system in the world that I've heard I experience ear strain, ringing, you know, the regular deal. I experience nothing from the F1, and it sounds so fckin good that I neglect the earplugs for that one specific instance one or two times a year if I'm lucky. Fucking magical system.

Also, Zak, it doesn't matter how old you are, or how many parties you go to. Hearing loss is hearing loss, and if it's too loud and you don't have adequate protection you will hurt yourself.

Just because you don't drive a car often doesn't mean driving recklessly is OK on the rare occasion you do.

Actually, my point does not concern hearing loss as much as the Psychosomatic effects of "loud noise." I talked to an audiology student friend of mine, and he commented that while loud concerts are dangerous and pose a threat to your ear (most notable your eardrum if your a performer), the risk is not much more of a car horn or a police siren (but at a much frequent higher of incidence at a show, obviously). There is often a neurologically/psychological component of the tinnitus one experiences post show. I personally felt this when I first began going to shows but once I got used to the sound and the environment as a whole, I rarely have residual ear impairments the next day.

Yes, if your going to more than 30 shows a year or a DJ/staff member, then earplugs are definitely a good idea. I just don't want people new to the scene reading this thread and immediately buying some cheapo earplugs. Some organizers put in a lot of effort in creating good sound and cheap earplugs basically ruin everything we try to do. If hearing loss is a serious concern for you or you are a plain hypochondriac, I suggest buying a very nice pair a custom earplugs.           http://www.eatpulp.com/
