You know you're old and amongst "kids" when the genre-defining artists you grew up loving are considered "old school." LOLOL

Steve Reich - Klaus Schultz - Pete Namlook - The Orb - Steve Roach - Tangerine Dream (their early albums) - Robert Rich - Ian Boddy - Tetsuo Inue.

And if you need the prefix "psy" in front of any non-trance genre in order to enjoy it...you're really robbing yourself of some wonderful music.

Some contemporary artists you should check out are The Circular Ruins, Saul Stokes, Darshan Ambient, Chand Hoefler, Jeff Pearce, Paul Vnuk, James Johnson, and Robert Davies.

These artists span the continuum of ambient, space, and downtempo and are all worth checking out.

Peace,

Jim

O Yuki Conjugate - Undercurrent in Dark Waters
Various - Axiom Ambient
Bill Laswell - Ambient Compendium
Blink Twice - Other Locations
Brain Eno - Music for Airports
Drome - Final Colonization of the Corporate Consciousness
Future Sound of London - ISDN
Woob -1194
Various - Amberdelic Space
Biosphere - Substrata
Nightmare Lodge - Negative Planet
Pete Namlook & Dr. Amato - Silence
Pete Namlook & Bill Laswell - Psychonavigation
Pete Namlook and Mixmaster Morris - Dreamfish
The Irresistible Force - It's Tomorrow Already
Rapoon - Vernal Crossing
Various - Alien Ambient Galaxy
Various - Promises of Silence
Alio Die - Under a Holy Ritual

There's a ton more, but those are all some very solid releases from ~10+- years ago.

Celestial Dragon is releasing Indigo Egg - Ixland in the near future. This album was recorded by Matt Hillier during his pre-ishq days in the mid nineties and is a really beautiful album that really defines (imho) the early days of ambient goa...it's sort of like if Ishq remixed Infinity Projects - Mystical Experiences. The album has been shelved over the years and never released so it really is a piece of our history set to sonic reality.           Lobogistic labs

Some very good titles on this list but if I was to select
something from The Irresistible Force it wouldn't be "It's Tomorrow Already".
I find his "Flying High" and "Global Chillage" to be far superior.

Good point. My personal preference is for "It's Tomorrow" because it was the right album at the right time to make a deep impression on me. You really should check out those previous two though. Many would agree tha they are a better starting point.

Two more to add to the list:

Entropica - Sonic Blooms
Orgship - Solar Quest
