Offensive groups names.

I remeber during one of the debates about live acts or something Pavel had a go at Cannibal Holocaust for the the name... now I know that we're supposed to steer clear of politics here but I just thought that it's ridiculous because the term Holocaust actualy comes from Greek and simply means the destruction of everything.
Now it has many other meanings as well, and I can see why many on this forum would find the name offensive... but really, Cannibal Holocaust to me sounds more like a reference to movies along the linesof Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later... where it is the end of the world mostly, and the living dead eat the flesh of humans...
therefor it is a funny name nothing offensive...
so all in all can we stop taking things so seriously!?

The word 'Holocaust' may not be offensive as an artists' name. Even if someone is aware of what it actually means, they'd still associate it with events commonly associated with the word. Cant be helped.
I wouldnt say its a 'funny' name, but it shouldnt be taken too seriously.

Scary names? your innocent outlook amuses me greatly...
but in some ways it is nice... because when reality hits, lie is really fucking shit 99.9% of the time, so enjoy the 0.1% of happiness while you have it...
the reason I don;t give a fuck about you, or anyone on here or at work or on the street is because life doesn't give a fuck about me... you struggle trough life, you die and bang it's over... your worm fodder...
it's nice to dream there is a better life next, but man, I really fucking doubt it. |

i think if it offends it has done its job...i mean whats the point of naming yourself something that does not get a reaction out of people...good or bad who cares but a reaction is awesome...if you feel disgusted or angry thats the point...if you feel happy or cheerful thats another point...but offensive names rule!

I wouldn't say that names like that offends me (imo). But what I do feel often is that it's name that bores me, it looks and feels like boring trance music names with lack of imagination trying to be something, something cool.

I never got offended by artist/DJ names in any way. I just dont take it so seriously that it can offend me!  IMHO, its just a name. All that matters for me is the music they make.

I just find those name has no relation with trance culture, movement, music, feelings, spirituality and so on...
It's better for a death metal group or for some satanic wannabes...
I find funny a crazy sample in a track, I don't need a noobish name of a noobish group to have more fun... I already have enough if the music is good and I enjoy it...with a funny sample even more...
But names like those I found funny if I produce a bad track for friends to make a joke, not if I want to make people dance and give them energy and positiveness....
I like some "darkpsy" project a lot, and I still not have found a project with one of those "darkish satanic" names that makes good sound as others project with more deep names
Anyway a point of view... nobody will die because of a name or else
P.S: anyway I also don't find funny those series B films where everybody becomes zombie and somebody start killing them....( just the one with dumbest actors ) ( even if a friend of mine acted in 28 days later)

More than anything I found it offensive toward what the scene stood up for. You know, good spirits, love, and all that hippie bullshit that obviously passed away in the last years. Maybe it's for good, I don't know what's worse, another overused mantra sample or some horror film sample. All equally cliche and attracts the lowest common denominator

nah serious now i don't care about names no name can be offending as it refers to the artist not to the other things it stoiod for in the past
that's the power of change so they may call themselves "kill the nigger" "death to all" " the holocaust lovers" or whatever...
