man it sucked to have this party cancelled. I was up on top of the mountain around 9:30 pm with a bunch of other cars, maybe about 20 or so. We watched the party get setup and was eagerly awaiting the madness that was supposed to happen.
then i noticed it was around 11 pm, no more cars came up after us. then brad fired up full volume on the BEAUTIFUL Funktion One. another half hour passes, still no more cars, WTF?????
Then around midnight, I'm really starting to get nervous and was talking with other people wondering what could the problem be.
Then the shit hit the fan, 4 BLM suv's and the local Sherriff came rumblin up the hill at 1 am.
They instantly started flashin lights and drove straight onto the dancefloor (which unfortunately only had about 4 people dancing) Then they hit the bullhorn and started yelling "You are in violation of California code such n such, Illegal assembly on public land..........WAIT, WHAT THE F&*K?????? PUBLIC LAND??????" Then we get hit with "You have 20 minutes to leave or you will be arrested"
seriously though, this was going to be stellar. The funktion one system is just absolute magic in all its technological glory. Wow, just freakin wow.
There are a lot of people that got put out by this but all one can do as an organizer is learn from your mistakes and try harder for the next one. I really hope that nobody was arrested and everybody made it down the hill okay.
until the next one
We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

You know it is kinda hard to believe that the California police is browsing on Isratrance to look for outdoor parties.
It is however more logical that somebody had tipped the police about this party.
I remember bad times in New York and other places that different production groups were rating on each other to eliminate competition.
I am very sorry to even bring this up and I am hopeful that is not the case in the Awesome L.A. Scene.
Noizemakers do not fear we are here for You and we will be there for Your next one. |

Dude, it is VERY, VERY likely police are reading about events here, or on many other places on the internet, and that they have been for many years.
Many recent outdoor events at various locations may or may not have been 100% legal and permitted, but they were still on private land, and therefore not as big of an enforcement priority. But when a publicly posted party is on BLM/public land that changes the entire nature of charges/laws being broken regarding why the party is being busted. Simply not having a dance permit on private land may sometimes get a party busted if the cops have nothing better to do, but it is no where near as a high of an enforcement priority as mass trespassing.
People really seem to forget in this day and age that anyone can read anything on the internet, not just the people you want reading it. That is really shitty to hear about NY crews ratting each other out, but I am under the impression the LA psy scene is a lot friendlier with each other than that, I think the explanation here is a lot simpler - good private land is hard to find.

Not to mention that even if they hadn't specifically heard of this party, that they were bound to notice 1000+ cars headed up to a camp ground in the Angeles NATIONAL FOREST in the middle of the night. You can get away with small underground parties there, and even then sometimes that's iffy, but International Headliners are a completely different story. *shrug*
Private venues ftw though!

I would hope that in the future, everyone doublechecks the legality of the land that they throw an event on before a bunch of people show up.
Sucks to hear this didn't happen, but big lesson learned and on to the next stage.

One of the organizers I play with regularly has started a TEXT LIST where he automatically gets texts out to everybody on his list. Would only work for those will cell phones, not even sure if that's a problem. But hey there's another idea too!
Another idea I've had is that you could keep directions secret to those who purchased presales (and get them automatically emailed), and then they can forward them onto their friends... but I'm sure it would cut the line at some point.
Email lists are never a bad idea though, green sector has that one down.

i noticed this event was posted on http://www.socal-raves.org/calendar/ also ... i am guessing it is more likely that SoCal LE would be looking at that site, as opposed to an Israeli trance forum
