I think that it's not Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk who started to sound like Psy Trance but rather GMS and their clones started to sound like Euro Trance, and that is really sad.
Having said that, some Dark Psy started to sound like happy hardcore to me, although without the happy part. Which is even sadder.
Not to mention Skazi and co' that started to remind me Scooter and his gang.

Exactly my thoughts, except for the happy hardcore thing, Israeli morning full on with remixes of Alphaville and Opus III fits more the bill.

Ok I have a suggestion of how to call "darkpsy". Why not "Glitch trance"? It's neutral, a lot of the fast darkpsy incorporates those glitches that were made popular by hux flux and droidsect. I mean listen to Highko and Kindzaza and try to describe OBJECTIVELY what sounds you hear, most of the time it is throbbing basslines, glitchy noizy sounds talking to each other, little to no percussions/drum loops. That's it. I don't see any fast gabber samples like what Damage uses, no searing "evil" synth leads like something out of a Delta9/Manu le Malin track, some industrial gritty feel to it but that for me is as close as it comes to hardcore.

I've played some "darkpsy" to some hardcore fans here in france (very big movement, 10x bigger than psy) and they laugh at it, for them it's trance. It justs go to show you that labels are very subjective. Mr. Detox probably thinks in his head that real psytrance is sasha and digweed (northern exposure anyone?) and those crazy UK blokes like process and slinky wizard were probably just making "darkpsy"

@Neuromantik
I agree that guys like Process and early Hux Flux were the ones that laid out the fundaments for today's "Dark Psy". My personal gripe is that i just can't find anything remotely that groovy, intricant yet crazy and dare i say, psychedelic as Hux Flux' debut album or some Process tunes like the insanely brilliant "Clarity From Deep Fog" (with Prometheus) from VA Dementertainment. All today's night music is just too busy with too many elements and i just can't hear any "talk" between the elements like the good ol' Hux Flux tunes had. People always mention to me Derango and Psykovsky stuff to prove to me that this whole Dark Psy/Forest/Whatever sub genre has depth. And yes, full respect for the crazy sounds in their albums but i can't hear no speech and no real connection between the sounds. And it's all so intense and doesn't leave enough air to breathe. That's why i moved to Progressive personally cause atleast some artists there have ideas behind tracks and the only artists nowadays that have the Hux Flux vibe are Krumelur and to some extent Sensient.
