i had the idea that it would be usefull to release tons of audioshit being called as the actual releases in the net. just releasing perfect fakes or destroyed material hidden in the files which look like the real ware. this would not exchange all the illegal files out there but will heavily confuse and irritate the black-free-market and the consumer trust into illegal downloads.
we could create a community who is permanently sharing fakes with success. i am sure many people would join.

Allright, now for the chorus:

Throw your hands in the air
And wave 'em like you just dont care
And if you wanna see the fall of MP3,
let me hear you say "Oh yeah!"

now... everybody sing

That would be the smart thing to do... no one can stop it, so you may as well take advantage of whatever promotional leverage you may be able to find with your own mp3 release...

if that's the case start blaming the labels and their poor security...only ppl working in CD presses have access to such material (apart from the artists / labels themseleves). so, we have only 3 possible kind of ppl who can give the music to the rippers, case closed!

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree on this one. A lot of people get their hands on a CD prior to it being made available in stores. Among these are journalists, retailers, DJ's, radio programmers, friends/family of the artist, label employees, studio employees, etc. Many of these people feel no sense of responsibilty to protect the artist but for better or worse, they're all integral pieces of an effectively promoted record.

I work for a label in the US and the piracy problem for us has been overwhelmingly complex. We try a number of things including copy-protection and spoofing (exactly what Kitnam mentions), but none of it's foolproof. If someone is dead-set on finding the music before release and free of charge, they most likely will.

Until the mindset of music fans changes and people treat musicians with the same respect they'd ask of their own livelihood, piracy won't go away...no matter how many rap verses you guys write.

It's not that difficult to close down the dc hubs atleast.. I really wonder why labels aren't doing anything about them.. also killing all western psytrance ftps is very easy

I don't see how closing ftps is very easy. Dc hubs are ok, since they are public. But private ftps? How are you gonna do that? Go door to door and check all houses and offices with decent connections?           ________________________

these are not the important factors for piracy...if these places are closed then ppl will find new means to pirate

and as Scomikan rightly pointed out, piracy is a very very complicated issue

I don't really see what is so complicated, once you realize you cannot stop it. Find a way to work with it - use the distribution channels to your advantage - realign your profiteering to realms which remain lucrative (live gigs for example) and free the music!
