Sell everything and juts buy a Lemur and use it with your software,
by the way the lemur dropped its price to $1500 USD.

U see where this is going? Eventually its gonna be all done by just thinking about it.. So u can lay in your bed and mix and produce without any labor..
I don't like it.. I have turntables so I can get away from computer and software.. I already have too much software when Im producing.. Turntables and hardware synthesizers are my only sanctuary.. This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.. So I don't wanna be faithless and betray all my beliefs..

hey sly..
serato can be used as audio interface - meaning u can use sl-box with ableton.. At least on pc..
Would u like to repeat that perfect minimal set using your traktor so u can play on 4 channels without headphones, pressing buttons on your MIDI controller/synth/whatever, adding bunch of FX, and in the same time mix your live set from ableton?
I will use nothing but 2 turntables, mixer with FX, headphones and serato and some minimal techno tracks and we can have a mix battle..
And than we can let people here decide is that future of dj-ing u have under your hands better than an old fashion way of mixing like it was for more than 30 years..
Do u accept the challenge?
Im asking u this just so that u dont make some fullish thing and abandon that vinyl feel.. I dont have as much DJ experience as you, and I dont mix minimal usually but if I win maybe I change your mind.. I had same battle like this with guy whos using traktor, pressing buttons and stuff.. Eventually he pulled out his old decks..
"Limitations" on serato are actually there just to keep u locked on that vinyl feel..
All these midi stuff, bpm sync, mixing with a touch of a button are really not improvements..
U cant make better something thats already perfect, thats why technics didnt changed their turntables for all these years..

accepted. you just have to wait till i have the midi controller. and of course i use headphones and a real mixer too. it was just an example coz i tried out just with my laptop. and i even do a battle with real vinyl, i lost the routine but with three turntables i used to mix about 50 tracks per hour. so i think everyone djing shoud learn the old way. but sometimes it's great dealing with fx and preparing new tracks without loosing time senseless imo...
i tell you when i'm ready. and you choose the style. except d'n'b or hip hop i can't catch up with pros.
lokking forward to the battle.
and mate, you have never tried out traktor seriously, have you? |

OK, Im taking back what I said.. I seen Audio 8 DJ, I seen skate park survival test, I seen it has MIDI connections built in, interface is great!
Only one thing that still bothers me is that sync button, having that is a big temptation, u cant avoid not to use it.. And I just dont want to listen music mixed by a computer, whats the fun in that? Eventually I would get idea to get rid of my TTs like Sly thought.. This is bad, really bad, now I also have idea to switch to traktor and that would probably be big mistake.. Ill explore more about that new traktor..

sorry, haven't read the whole thread. i knew you would change your mind coz i had the same opinion before
about scratching: ask real turnatabelists what's better, serato or traktor pro. i already know the answer...
i don't know lemur. and i don't care since knowing traktor. i was talking about minimal on purpose cause traktor sometimes fails overlayering fast psy. minor shifts between the attack part of the pitch can sound shitty. i need about 8-16 bars for beatmatching anywayz, rest is correction. but pressing the sync button anytime whilst making a 2 minute transition gives you time to prepare new tracks on the other desk and start mixing the third one without being focused to tempo all the time.
i made my opinion clear anyways and i won't change for sure. so i won't repeat again and looking forward to the battle... |

I haven't really used ableton for DJing much but I will say...
I think I would like the way sasha (and I can't remember who else) does it, where the tracks are matched up in ableton, but then go out two seperate outputs into a regular mixer.
Honestly beatmatching is one of those things that either you do or you don't do, and I'd rather have a computer do it for me perfectly than have to distract myself from the actual mixing part to deal with it
One big reason I want to move away from CDs (but need a laptop to do so as I don't currently own one) is that CDs limit you to CD quality audio and more and more music is going to start coming out in 24bit 96khz
Also, burning and organizing lots of CDs is annoying and bad for the environment. It'd be a lot nicer just to be able to type a word from the song title in and find it instantly, plus then you can carry your entire collection with you. |

I heard how that sounds in that minimal battle Im having now and Im not impressed.. theres five of us in that battle and somehow Im winning for now but it looks like its gonna be tied between me and one other guy..
Anyways, 50 tracks in one hour on 3 TTs, damn, ur gonna blast me with ease, I should watch what Im saying in the future ;D
About style, if we gonna do it than I would enjoy most if we play progressive psy trance, if thats ok with you.. I can play electro house, minimal house, psy trance, goa whatever but proggy is my fav..

Yes, thats the idea.
PLUS. you can duplicate the tracks....in realtime....and cut loops and edit on the fly and then remix the track on the fly.
This is whats appealing to me.
So like Rayz says....he is battling.
Now imagine battling with all your tracks in Ableton, you will be able to jam all those 50 tracks....AND remix em on the fly....
That will be some CRAZY set.
