new release
'Shiva Subcontractor'
pressed by chillpod(200 copies). Produced and arranged by sir eel (1/2 of waterjuice) with live didgeridoo/mouthharp and vibe by Jovis (chill pod).
This album was created for chai shop and live jamming in goa cafe and around other parts of india. Etherial epic grooves....

Shiva Subcontractor is the newest project from Cyril (Sir-Eel) of WaterJuice fame and mouthharp didj player, Jovis. San Francisco psy-scene refugees that have moved towards concept-driven music.
It's deep and driving but not just in the beats: Shiva Subcontractor remarries the the bass with the rhythm with heavy didgeridoo
that's been warped and modified. did we mention the mouth harp? who ever
thought that didg and mouth harp could be made to sound so psychedelic?
chill to groovy vibes on this organic journey....

i've had the good fortune to be tuned in to the first run of this album.
this is unlike ANY other album in existance. the skill and creativity exhibited is unlike anything else you'll hear on any album. ever. seriously.

yah, just quick notes on somethings cyril said...
this is one of few electronic/ethno/chill/whatever albums that reintroduce the concept of the "rhythm section" by marrying the bass tones with the drum beats.
...and who ever thought that mouthharp could be psychedelic??? it can. TRUST ME.

Very creative indeed, and as described before - not something usual at all. Very interesting use of Didj in combination with ambient, dub and even progressive rock elements - if you're into something new and facinating this is one release you wouldn't want to miss!

dunno if I would describe it as chillout- it is downtempo, but not chill out. In times it is very intense, full CD with Didg can't really be chillout for me, especially when it is covered by trippy electronica.
Saying that, this is a very very deep dive for minds liking challenge, just bring enough oxygen.

hey spectral, that tune is called 'Didgerigoo' and is the same flavor as shiva subcontractor (same mouthharp/didg player!). That track actually sprung out this other creation...

Waterjuice truly rocks! They are making fresh, groovy, original sounds that are up there with any other acts in the scene.... I've only seen you guys once, but I was mighty impressed at how much sound and how very 'live' 2 guys could get.
i will track down Cyril's Shiva Subcontractor if Ambient Airlines still carries..... |
