hi to all... maybe this topic is not so interesting but... check... i live in mexico and as u know many parties take place here... some of the mos shittifull djs... or lives are even from mexico (except for few... sharigrama, barak, total sicknes, smuhg and some othes i cant remember) but... in many parties i have heard lots of guys who doesnt have any sense even about matching a tune... or some basic stuff at a live act...

my question is... is mexico the only country where u can get a easy chance to play?... by this i mean
being friend of the promoter, or just ask him to give a chance and boom!...

i really want to know

Man its all about contacts and you being a little bit good, depending on the party (size, lives etc...) they will defently het some people to fill-in slots (this happens a lot in chill-outs) they will put someone to play just to fill-in some time, these people are likely to play at the worse times and some of them dont even know how a mixer works. I've seen it myself

that sounds bad. Is this fair for others? Like those who do not have contacts? How did they have contacts in the first place, can someone give some examples?

isn t it naturally that new artists/dj's can t mix as good as oaky when they do theyr first spin ?!? -so if they never have the chance to spin ( n do some shitty mixes too ) they can t learn...or...?

n for shure they wont get the first chance to spin at a big festival but rather at a small party where ppl know some ppl which know some ppl...

...it s everywhere the same, not only in music. it s all about contacts...

bom bom           experiment !
make it your motto day and night.
experiment,
and it will lead you to the light.

is never too high to achieve,
so take an example from eve...

Getting gigs is 50% about good you are, 50% about who you know - and that is optomistic (there are definitely other factors, but I am keeping it simple). If you suck but know a lot of people, you will probably get alot of gigs. If you are a phenomenal DJ but don't know anybody, get used to playing in your bedroom.

It's certainly not fair, but it's really just how the music industry works on all levels, unfortunately.

NeutroN, i agree that it isnt fair for others, but i wont say life is unfair I think those who get gigs by contacts will only last for awhile in the scene, its those who try hard that will stay on top.

I dont see the reasoning here I am doing a comeback as a DJ via new and old contacts. I consider myself a talented DJ with a lot of experience... So if I had to agree to your opinion I would not last as a DJ and be a bad dj ?

What about talented and hard working DJ's that get gigs via contacts? It's not as black & white as you make it mate

And what's wrong with using contacts? I am sure each and every one of you would do it if you could

I didnt mean it like that EP, maybe i didnt state it. But what i am trying to say is that, you work hard you get contacts eventually in the end, although it might not apply to everyone, a few might not.

Its not fair when a great dj who has no contacts doesnt get a chance but a bedroom dj with lots of contacts getting their gigs via contact.

And yes, who wouldnt want to get contacts or use them well? I would but it just doesnt come by easily. Good luck with your comeback

The world is not a fair place...

But believe me if you trust in yourself then you can become whatever you want to.
