I'm in the need of a new studio computer for running Cubase 5. Now I don't know anything about studio computers but this is my setup so far:
Intel i7-860 Quad Core Processor - 2.80 GHz, 8MB Cache, 2.5 GT/sec, Socket 1156, 45 nm, 3 Year Warranty, Retail Boxed
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 Motherboard
Corsair TX Series, 650 Watt, ATX, PS/2, Power Supply, UK Version (CMPSU-650TXUK)
1GB Asus HD 4670, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 1600MHz GDDR3, GPU 750MHz, 320 Cores, D-Sub/ Dual Link DVI-I/ HDMI
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7260S DVD-Writer - Black - Bulk - Internal Double-layer - DVD-RAM/±R/±RW - 24x 8x 16x (DVD) - 48x 32x 48x (CD) - Serial ATA
Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 ECC-Reg CL7 K2
Antec Performance One P183 - Mid tower - ATX - no power supply - black - USB/Audio/E-SATA
E-MU 1212M PCI Express Digital Audio System
Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB (7200rpm) SATA 64MB Hard Drive (WD2001FASS)
What do you guys think of that?
My budget is around 1500$
I appreciate all your advice.
Edit: sorry, please move to Equipment section, my bad |

Looks good. The GPU has a fan?

Great, not sure if it has a fan. But will all the parts fit together? Because if I buy it and they don't fit then it's not so good |

I decided to upgrade the CPU and add a CPU fan. but now it's 2000$
That's a lot of money.
Intel I7-930 Bloomfield Quad Core Processor (2.80 Ghz,8mb Cache,qpi 4.8 Gt/sec,socket 1366,45nm,3 Year Warranty,retail Boxed)
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 Motherboard
Corsair 750W TX PSU
1GB Asus HD 4670, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 1600MHz GDDR3, GPU 750MHz, 320 Cores, D-Sub/ Dual Link DVI-I/ HDMI
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7260S DVD-Writer - Black - Bulk - Internal Double-layer - DVD-RAM/±R/±RW - 24x 8x 16x (DVD) - 48x 32x 48x (CD) - Serial ATA
Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 ECC-Reg CL7 K2
Antec Performance One P183 - Mid tower - ATX - no power supply - black - USB/Audio/E-SATA
E-MU 1212M PCI Express Digital Audio System
Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB (7200rpm) SATA 64MB Hard Drive (WD2001FASS)
Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 GT CPU Cooler
What should I downgrade? I want to keep 8gb ram, i7 and the case |

Get a weaker PSU.
750W is overkill. 500W should be ok I think.
Maybe get a weaker cpu? I got a Q9550 which is definitely weaker than what you got here, and performance is amazing.
If this is going to be a DAW - get the cheapest GPU you can, and make sure it has passive cooling- that is, no fan.
Make sure you're using a 64bit OS - otherwise no point in getting 8GB of ram.
2TB HD - imo too much. But you know.

Very similar system to mine; i7 930 on that Gigabyte motherboard is a phenomenal combination. I have 6GB RAM which works perfectly fine.
You don't need a mega GPU unless you're doing gaming, and you probably don't want to be doing gaming on your production machine. Passive cooling is a must.
I'd suggest getting 2x 1TB drives rather than a single 2TB drive; cheaper and more secure (you don't risk losing all your data at once if it fails). Also I think it's still good practise to keep your system and apps on a different drive to your data and projects.

ECC registered RAM is not really recommend for desktop systems, it's just required for some server boards ... can recommend Corsair or Samsung modules.

Thanks for all the advice. Now my setup looks like this:
Intel I7-930 Bloomfield Quad Core Processor (2.80 Ghz,8mb Cache,qpi 4.8 Gt/sec,socket 1366,45nm,3 Year Warranty,retail Boxed)
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 Motherboard
Corsair 550W VX PSU
Sapphire RADEON HD 4550 - Graphics adapter - Radeon HD 4550 - PCI Express 2.0 x16 low profile - 512 MB DDR3 - Digital Visual Interface (DVI), HDMI ( HDCP ) - lite retail
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7260S DVD-Writer - Black - Bulk - Internal Double-layer - DVD-RAM/±R/±RW - 24x 8x 16x (DVD) - 48x 32x 48x (CD) - Serial ATA
Corsair (TR3X6G1333C9)6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory CL9(9-9-9-24) for i7 motherboards
Antec Performance One P183 - Mid tower - ATX - no power supply - black - USB/Audio/E-SATA
E-MU 1212M PCI Express Digital Audio System
Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1 TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Disk Drive
Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 GT CPU Cooler
And the total is 1499$ perfect
What do you think? And will all the parts fit in the case? |

The parts should fit but I think you should look at this case, which I am a big fan of:

Comes with two fans and acoustic treatment pre-installed, and an awesome HDD mounting system. Very very quiet, and looks amazing IMO.

Nice, that's even better. and cheaper
I'll go with that instead, but I only found Fractal Design Define R3 Titanium Grey in my country though.
What's the difference between R3 and R2? |

I have the R3 since a couple of days. It's a great case. It comes with a fan control and combined with silent parts you will hear nothing.
There are not many differences to the R2 version, they changed the fans from 1000rpm to 1350rpm and the rubber pads for the hd are now silicone.
The case is big enough for your parts and a big cpu cooler like the Mugen 2. It has 8 hd slots but only 2 5,25" slots.
By the way... why not an AMD system, e.g. X6 1090T ? Would be cheaper. |

the i7 930 with the mobo you chose is incompatible ( different sockets ) you need a mobo with x58 chipset 1366 socket.
ram you choose its to slow 1333mhz at 9-9-9-24 is slow for this setup.
1333 is ok but something with 7-7-7 or 8-8-8 timmings is better for 9-9-9 timmings get 1600mhz or faster memory.
the graphics card is low profile so it want fit in the box.
the emu 1212 is a very mediocre soundcard.
spend a little less on cpu and mobo ( go amd x6 ) and get an ssd drive.
fractal design is a good case. http://www.landmark-recordings.com/
