Why he was so popular? His tracks are so cheesey & sugary and repetitive. They all sound identical, like he only had the one formula and set of sounds. Minimal layers and yet he had such a time during 90's as big shot ??
Was it because it could cross over in to mainstream due to cheese?

I´m not a MWNN fan... But it indeed bring a lot of old psy trance feellings.
I was never into this "thin kick" style. Sounds like not enough pitch bend on the kick.
Anyway, are you ok Mike? lol
Note: The Teleport REMIX is a BOMB!!!! Maybe that´s why I don´t like so much MWNN. Not so many tracks that sounds like this remix.

Have you met Martin, Ozmike?
He is a super nice guy, certainly no diva.
As to his music, some tunes have a lot of cheese, yes, some don't and he managed to somehow write music that resonated with people that have been listening to Goa trance before and people that did not know anything about it, yet made them fall in love with it.
The hype around him sky rocketed when Paul Oakenfold said Teleport is in his 3 top tracks of all time. That was back when Oakie's reputation was high.
Its not like Martin started spamming the world with his own shit, shoving his music down your throat.
So besides the fact that you personally don't like his music, although an *awful lot* of people do and its not like he is taking your slots in parties/festivals, nor do you go out and have to listen to his music getting played left, right and centre... and he plays his own very distinguishable sound and did not copy/paste someone else's ideas/style, you speak with such disrespect, why exactly?
So you think your shit sounds more original? He was very original when he made what he did, but let's play the devil's advocate...
Do you even make music to spit out such nonsense?
You got an expensive modular did you not?
So where is it?

MWNN was one of the first trance acts I was exposed to...this was back in 2003. Loved the shit out of it.
Listening to it now in 2013 its cheese overload most of the time but Teleport, Treacle are fuckin classics
as has been mentioned multiple times...lets hear your shit that's better.
