I havent touched Surge since moving to this new x64 machine, for some reason... Ive gotten quite a good bit of use out it, its got great FM integration, its like using Operator, as an oscillator

I just reupped my Sylenth, now fully compatible with this system (I found out the hard way the older versions weren't, luckily the volume wasnt TOO loud)

I discovered a couple modular/semi- beta versions hanging round KVR, Sonigen Modular (pretty damn close to a Nord modular) and Quiver, both very promising. Also if you're over there GET VENOM VB303. Its beta too, but... IT KILLS ABL2 AND PHOSCYON. Plus its got us Roland-groupies beta testing and if theres one social group frugal with praise its synth-geeks, so teh VB has all teh makings of The Next Great 303 Emulation. (did i mention teh second oscillator?)

That said, I can't go a week without plinking around with that old single-waveform-mono-with-the-special-filter-and-sequencer (emulation) that is the entire reason Im still at this business, usually Venom, when it crashes ABL2 takes the stage, but lemme tellya its like going onstage after Simon P, the ABL suffers when the Ven sound still hums in your brain.           .

Hi,are you serious? .. abl is really not worth comparing with the original roland tb 303 imo but phoscyon is a great emulation for sure.. Thank you for this mentioning anyways. gonna test it right now for the love of those acid synths and my next houres at pc.How cool that this is a free one. Nice!

( ..I wish there would be more good synths and plug ins for mac that are for free.
The ones you can get for free on kvr are not really that impressive (for mac) imo. )

I had my fun and will have in future more with this tool! Thank you much.I'm glad I found this here.
It has certainly the acid 303 touch it is really fun to play with it.I like that sound - way more than any other, apart of phoscyon for really lots of reasos, but you can compare him surely with phoscyon more than with any other 303 emulation and it makes so fun.It has some other features which is fun,and it sounds slightly but definetly different.
And it's a matter of taste.
I got first a window comin up at me with this is not a windows blabla .. but I was curious and I got it in my cubase and made even automations.I used than some delay to it and was so fun.
I don't like thaaaat small knobs..damn this is really hard to change for instance even the waveform...Hope this guy keeps working on it.
Cool mudpeople great you sharing your found here !
Nice!

Ive been trying to get hte word out since i found it.

Ive been told the interface is going to be much better when teh next version releases, plus teh sequencer will be controllable from MIDI.

The interface its got right now is pretty much a 'Pardon the mess, remodelling!' dropcloth type thing, the developer has been focusing more on the sound. He said a few days ago that he wants to wait til its Just Right and release a 1.0 but we're all trying to wheedle him into putting out a Release Candidate version before then, I for one am DROOLING.

ABL2 isn't quite a TB acoustically, its filter is too foggy, Phoscyon nailed the filter but the interface, compared to ABL which lets you program patterns from teh MIDI keys (and imports Rebirth patterns which was a kinda bonus, I would make patterns in Rebirth which for some reason was more fun, but doesnt run on x64 Win7), and idk, Phoscyon's sequencer doesn't quite have the 'Right' sound.

Theres a lot of neat little features in the VB, theres also a back panel where you can change the slide behavior, activate oversampling and turn on the x/y pad for the cutoff/env mod (idk if its mappable to MIDI But its a sign of good things tocome) plus a couple of non functional switches. The knobs in the red space, idk what they do, they mess wtih teh sound somehow...

Theres also Open303, a mGUI plug that also sounds pretty nice, but isn't quite as fun or easy to rock out on as the Venom, but its another 303 emu beta on KVR

I just wish Venom was stable enough to play in my Ableton live setup... Save your good patterns ASAP is all I gotta say about that

Must have?

That's most definitively Diversion.

http://diversion-synth.com/

I'm stunned by its quality, awesome filters, sharp and crunchy sound and way too easy to edit.
And those multistage envelopes are too damn fun to play with too.
It's just much too heavy on my cpu though.
But you should really check this synth out.

Kairatune is fun, pretty easy to use but dunno about for Psy stuff.

I like the synths G-Sonique makes. Very fitting for a students budget.

Diva! But first get a new CPU, hehe. It easily kills mine Core2Duo in no time.

yeah its CPU usage is pretty insane. by the third voice on the Modular Bells patch my CPU goes to 120% in 'divine' mode.

it goes beyond my physical understanding of the world how you can max out a cpu to greater than 100 percent?

It took me a few years, but I've just discovered NI's Massive with the 24dB LPF and the Carbon waveform packs a punch for the classic psytrance saw bassline.

Peace out.

@klippel when z3ta 2 first released, it glitched while I was previewing presets in Ableton and the CPU meter was >50,000% Live isn't yet x64 native so it can't even use more than 4gb RAM, and my lappy has a Core i5 with 4 2.6ghz cores so Im sure it was just one of the z3ta 2 initial-release bugs.

Diva almost maxed the i5 for real recently in Renoise, but Ive got it set to auto-kill at 95%, so I don't know how much higher than that it would have been. Beastly friggin synth Watch yourself when using more than a couple voices

Has anyone else tried out Straightarrow Quiver? Its a modular made to program quickly and intuitively that was available as public beta up til a couple months ago, with a module routing interface similar to Zebra, but a much more streamlined GUI, distinctly unique sound, and a few unique modules (along with the usual suspects). Very easy to get nice weird complex sounds out of, and an awesome 45 USD price tag. Worth checking out

Ive fallen in love with Kairatune as well, and I find it very useful, at least for my own purposes. Very easy to use and sounds incredible           .
