Woooo.....
I don't know man. £50 per week will be very tight. You'll find it hard to even find a place for that much.
I mean you could but then you will need another £50-£75 week for living expenses.

So, i would say you'll need atleast £100 per week for your accomodation plus living expenses(food, going out etc etc etc)

I hope i helped.

Sorry don't know about the midi school.

Good Luck man!

@ djparanormal

pm me and i will arrange for you to meet the right party freaks in manchester to help you out with accomodation and all that.

You' ll definitely need more monies to live on. UK is xpensive.

If you're a EU citizen you could claim benefits for unemployed ppl. They will pay your rent and give you around £50 a week to live on, but you will have to actively keep looking for a job to keep them happy. It did save my ass the first couple of years when i moved to UK back in '96.

Where there's a will, there's always a way ;)

Agree with the above - accomodation wise, you will at the cheapest be looking at spending about £50 a week - that's living in a shared house, probably in a student area (Rusholme/fallowfield). I'd say its quite easy, theres ads all over the place advertising for shared properties. The there's living expenses on top of that, like Bharath said, I think you'd need about £100 a week in total.

Manchester is a very friendly city, and there is a small community of psytrancers. Theres a monthly psy night (called sunrise), so I'm sure you'll find it a nice place to live

Theres a lot of manchester types that hang out on www.psy-forum.co.uk - it might be worth putting a post on there to get more of an idea as to what its like to live there.

Good luck

They've tightened up the rules a bit since then - so if you do find yourself looking for work with no money - try and get some advice before claiming anything.

Citizens Advice Bureau's provide free independent advice on lots of different issues like benefits, housing, immigration etc

I'd say it's fairly easy to find work, depending on how much you want to be working you can pick up jobs in bars/shops quite easily (there's loands and loads of bars in manc!). If you want more hours then theres plenty of work in call centres and stuff.

In manchester, there is only really one psy night, as mentioned above, and thats sunrise (first friday of the month at the music box). There are quite a few squat parties, and these seem to be getting more prevalent this year - if you want info on these then theres a new mailing list being set up, let me know your email address and I will add you on there.

In the summer obviously theres more outdoor parties, not in manc but in the surrounding areas (lake district/ wales). A lot of these get posted on psy-forum. And if you are willing to travel a little theres a few nights on in Leeds (Crystal Yamantaka, Cabbage, Gecko), Bradford (Kulu), Liverpool (Alien Resonance). If you are willing to travel a little more its only a few hours on the train down to London for the bigger nights.

Anyways - hope that helps

The manchester police are notoriously strict when it comes to free parties - which is why we seem to get lots of refugee Manc sound systems over this side of the pennines (Sheffield/Derbyshire area) !!

Historically yes, but like I said recently the free party people seem to have been putting on more and more successful nights. Previously it was guaranteed that a free party in manc would get busted by the police within the hour, but the last few months there has been numerous successful quality free parties, these have ranged from large scale multi-rig squat parties to smaller outdoor gatherings within the manchester countryside. Hopefully it'll stay this way and the police wont come down with an iron fist like they have done in previous years.

Why on earth are you encouraging someone to come into the country and claim benefits, just so they can afford to go on an audio engineering course? Surely the benefits which increase our tax bills every year should go to people who actually deserve them, like refugees and victims of persecution, rather than some bloke who wants to learn come here to learn how to make trance tunes.

Quite true but don't worry Dazzler i don't think overseas students are eligible for benefits in this country anyway!! He'll have to dig into his own pockets to pay for the course.

and Sorry DJ Paranormal never heard of the school.

OK can i suggest something? have you thought about coming down to London? There are quite a lot of schools here where you could learn sound, If you plan to work part time its a lot easier to get work in london(maybe its easy in Manchester as well but i can't say anything coz i've never worked there), pretty decent pay at most places, its such a big city man and there's shit loads you can do here, and the Parties ROCK BABY!!!!!!!

Ok its a bit more expensive but there are lots of ways you could bring your costs down.
e.g accomodation - you could share a house with three people in a two bed place or even more if you want. If you're willing there's always a way out.

Its a great city man look into it.

I'll send you some links to a few schools here. Not now, am busy at work but will do it sometime tomorrow or when i go home this evening.

Peace.           Rather than feeling that you're about to have the rug pulled from under you, let me teach you how to dance on a flying carpet

That's a right m8 , not a blag !
You probably haven't heard about the European Union now , have you ?
If you wanna stop peeps coming to UK to study, then why don't you go and get organised with the skinheads @ National Front ;(
Since you're so 'tax-aware' , shouldn't you try to stop your Tony of spending your ever increasing tax-bills on killing innocent children in countries that you should visit only as tourists !!!???

Thank you very much.
