ring mod , try synth with built in ring mod

effect soundtoys..but you re still not in same league as good analog fx if you want rich warm sound

all digital delay i tried fail misrably at reproducing bbd based fx, but it don t mean it sound bad..just not the same

Check out Valhalla Ubermod for delay mayhem           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

yeah and it sucks (Zebras ringmod only, the rest of Zebra is awesome)
In all honesty, yeah, the hardware costs like $250 but it is so worth it... buy it, even used if you can, they are pretty solid! Why, there is no software ringmod that even comes close...

I thought the Logic RingMod in version 9 didn't sound too bad.           https://www.djjeto.com

for ring mod you need a synth that handle" well"
audiorate modulation if you want it closer to analog stuff maybe try uhe ace , diva or dcam cypher but tbh when you play with good analog stuff and then these synth there is something not right in their sound and fast modulation like fm imo .. but i m sure you can get good enought result specailly with fx on top

Whilst the RingShifter sounds ok and I use it sometimes as a deep phaseshifting effect where I can easily modulate the LFO rate, the ring modulation of the RingShifter does not nearly as good as the Moog MF-102.

P.S. I love the FM sounds I've been getting on Zebra 2. Totally different to the Nord Lead FM, totally different to the Virus FM, the ES2 FM, the Albino FM, but very usable non the less.

yeah, the ring shifter in Logic is ok at it's own thing. pushed to the extremes, on vocals, can produce a very metalic, robot-like sound that is a great effect to use! but just can't live up to its hardware cousins...

I used to say reverb was like that to, but nowadays there's a couple of plug-ins that produce very decent reverb. plus, there's even the Eventide plug-in out there with original algorythms from their classic stuff that sounds really dope!

also been using Zebra a lot, and there's something to it's FM for sure. but if you want to go nutz with software instruments and FM, try the Bazille - it's on beta stage but very stable here! not a single crash or bug!! Now, that's something we're not really used to! all the audio rate mod sounds incredible on that one! plus, it doesn't hit the cpu even remotely similar to what you get with Diva, and I like the filters better on this one - plus you can do a ton of stuff you can't find on most (if any) software competition out there!

On the Virus, I like the "pos tri" mode the best! has that special sound to it, then the extra waves in "wave" mode also produce some very cool FM sounds...

^^Exactly.

Zebra is very deep and I recently only got it. I want to focus on it for a while as I don't like to try many new synths at a time as I loose focus. When I find something I like, I just dive in and stop looking at other synths for a good while, especially in the case of a synth with such a vast array of possible sounds.

In terms of modulation, it pisses over the Virus, from a great height and it has its own sound, which you may or may not like.
I do. It complements and fills a gap that my other hardware (and software synths, although I only have a few), could not.

yep, it's a sound designer's dream come true if you ask me! and the version 3 is on it's way. don't know if you know this, but you'll be able to get it just for 30€ since you bought zebra 2 this year - said by Urs Heckman himself on KVR forum.

Zebra's FM rocks, absolutely, I have been using this as primary fm source for all my sounds..., absolutely agreed on this statement!
