It needs discipline for sure. The easiest thing is to set up for a patch for a certain part of the track you are working on and you just go off on massive tangents, making new sounds and never actually getting the task at hand, done.
Also there is the learning curve, I've taken some time reading manuals and doing the "practice patches" to learn how to use the bit more complex modules and unlock some of their true potential, but its extremely satisfying when that happens.
Only this past week I've gotten handy with Maths, Wogglebug and Rene to use them quickly and efficiently to get to the sounds I need for certain parts and now the creativity and productivity is back on track and finished 16bar segments get done without procrastinating.
I also switched on my other synths again...glad I kept the Virus, surprised my self again with it...the modular approach when patching works well on other synths as well. And I am delighted to listen to analog modular patches, mixed in with some very digital Nord Lead, Virus C, Zebra 2 parts.
They create a fantastic contrast in a mix and actually make things easier on the mixdown.

It lead to a severe lack of creativity here. Over 24u of modular and was no more productive than I was with a digi polysynth. So I sold it all and have never been happier. It leads to shit music too, just head over to MuffWiggler and check out some of the "demos".
BTW, Dave is a good friend and does AMAZING stuff with modulars, I mastered his first album.

What an original opinion. Heard some of the music come from your mastering.'it's not exactly Beethoven itself.
I guess taste is taste but you just sound like a dumb cunt.

for productivty a modular built like a usual synths might be the way to go? depends result after.. but juts buying mostly oscillator and filters and not many exotic modules could be a good way to stay productive.
experimentating with all the great modules probably lot of fun but it may ask for complex patching and this take time when making music would maybe kill inspiration for me. |

you makwe up a super patche...( don't laugh)
kinda like a 4 part or whatever synth
then go from there every time you power up
take 10 mins to get something working
Don't have to start from scratch every time
so a couple exotic modules that got multi functions are really handy to give quite a bit of variety
Just down to how you want to work really
1 part bass.
1 fm lead
1 perc
analog seq for riffs. acid stuff\
record then do it again... don't need to start fro ZERO every time
Things like SEQ switches are pretty cool as you can have preset routings so you could route different osc to filter and whatever else without pulling patch cable and re patching
I got 1 row for cv and 1 row for audio stuff
gives me a 4 part synth............
so id imagine a 12 u would be more than enough to do a whole track on
Fuck I bet you could do an entire GIG on a 12.
would need a few cv able mixers and some mutes but you could get a psychedelic as fuck bit of audio that you can speed up slow down tweek every aspect of it live......
Some nights be great...other nights suck like fuck
true evolution on a musical scale

was thinking also the "static" generic sound will be more and more " boring " it already happen once you have test how organic things can sound when sound is constanly evolving with modulation ,and for this exoctic module can really help. so yeah getting a modular for typical synthetsis stuff might be kinda boring.. even if it s top notch quality...what is intresting is to do new or common stuff but with a special twist that is possible thanks to the modular flexiblty , also trying to make things really more organic with modulation , things that are not possible to get out of a usual synth ... evolution |

Hey it's a public forum and we all have opinions, I was just sharing my own experiences. There was really no need to get so nasty and personal. If you have a problem with me or my mastering then I'd much rather you PMed me about it than bring down the whole tone of the forum. What gives bro?
I was researching modulars from the mid 90's, started building around 2002, five years as a mod on Muff's, and was working with it for ten years, so it was no rush decision to get rid of it all.
