Hey guys.
When it comes to mixing i noticed that some tips/plugins really have made a big improvement on my mixes. So i thought it could be a good idea to share and collect tips from anyone who want to contribute.

I start.
Ny compression: Very effective to beef up the mix both in low end and add some crisp to the high end.
Put a EQ on a bus, filter out the mids. Then add a compressor with very high setting(threshold all the way down, ratio 10:1).
Now you just have to send the channels you want to the bus(just dont over do it). Since its on a bus you dont totally squash the dynamics, but instead you get a compressed sound but yet keep the dynamics.

A plugin i found recently.
The Waves TransX Wide.
This plugin is very useful to achieve punch in ex, kicks/snares etc.

I add more when i think of something!.

I'll add something too

There is a chorus fx from D16 which has a preset something called "HighStereoWidth", apply this on reverbsends and use the HP...widens up the mix really great you can play a little bit with the knobs while soloing the send to shape the sound to your taste

I guess it is possible with other chorus plugs but dunno the D16 is special(sounding), I did this with the ableton chorus before but the difference is rather big

Well this thing have to do with many other things such as good monitors, good room acoutic, experience and know what do you want to do when you mixing.
Start with simple things first, make your sounds great from the begging of your synth (tweak em as good as you can) and then cut out the unwanted frequencies. Generally follow a simle path dont do complex things with your mixes and becareful when you boost.
Think with that way:
Each element in your track needs his own space.

Btw this is an article/tutorial that i have read when i start making music back to 2005-6 and i must say that helped me a lot to understand many things about:

Learn to tweak knobs, every millimeter counts. Listen timbre and tune. Focus on the beat when your trying to find right feeling. My two cents

Thanks for the answers.
I think the topic is abit misunderstood.
Its not a general thread about mixing, it was more about sharing specific tricks which can be useful for other people.           .

meanwhile i like reverb on a bus with autopan on it. its like your sounds flying around your head when listening on headphones, which i only do
hehe really like it.

also like to route my bass on a bus with a eq and a distortion plug in (fab filter saturn, has different distortion types and mod matrix) on it.
mostly eq is set between 200 - 500 hz.
gives nice results for my taste.

I tweak knobs from the left to the right

And when I find the sweet spot I stop tweaking

L2 is just a limiter (compressor with infinite ratio and look-ahead)! a pretty transparent one, if you ask me!

what do you need to know exactly? i dont know what eveyone else does, but my kick is usualy about 1.1/2 - 2db above the bass, or just when it sounds right.
