Would love to hear from those experienced in mixing suomi.
I'm personally finding that you can really create a journey with this music with a lot more hills and valleys, moods and feelings than any other style. One track may even go from funky and groovy to dark and grinding. This kind of dynamic challenges you to really know the tracks and where you want them to take the listener.
Additionally, the shorter track lengths mean more tracks in a set thereby increasing the dynamics of the set.

Other thoughts?

Thanks

I agree, it's by far the hardest style to make mixes within our psyscene.
the key is the evolution in the sound/message you would like the people to hear.

I usually use blocks of max 4tracks that are in the same style of suomisaundii/freeform music

it's too bad that most dj's don't challenge themselves no more, most are happy if they have an ok mix, but you shouldn't work that way imo... it's all about the progress of changing peoples feelings, if you do it like this you will have people crying or running away from the intensity of the music (in a good way)
and yes, like oldschool goa, even sober people can enjoy this music in a psychedelic fashion (my gf for instance)

diversity in your set is the key to making a very psychedelic set

i never tried to mix Suomi, but this summer in the mountains (Manali), Sherebon from Gagarin (Goa) played at almost all the parties i went to & he freaking kiled with his strictly Suomi sets & very impressive stuff, i must say!           We were born naked & grow up to become wicked.

my favorite dj set must be suomi...
make sure you play only good sounding tracks - i have the privilege to re-master one's i think that it can help them... (well i play after magor fullon act i dont wanna sound like tiny can instead of kick).
as for the mixing i find harmonic mixing to work really well on that music.. and other then that usual mixing works - beat match etc. or the good ol suomi 13/26 seconds mix also work since alot of them build the track to fit to that.
and always remember no set is good set without atleast 1 accu track!           www.sattelbattle.com

Accu is really great band! They are not psy but funk pop and I love them.

i tried a suomi set this weekend and hell yea it was on fun ride.

I must say the track selection must be dead right when mixing suomi, as rich said one track may go from funky and groovy to dark and grinding, so track selection is the key while mixing suomi!

Mixing suomi is different cause bpm range goes from 130-150 and bass line is not straight forward.....
but seriously there is no difference of mixing suomi or any other trance, you just have to make sure your selections are right as in any other style of psy or what ever.

proper way to mix suomi is not to mix it, just drop next track on top of outro and drink beer with your left had, or if you find that difficult use your left had to press play and drink beer with right hand, thats how it has been done for years and thats how it will be done in future           http://www.myspace.com/polly_potb

i'm sorry, but the only proper way to mix suomi is to have a beer in each hand and move the crossfader with your cock.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance
