Hey, since I am meditating from time to time, I am curious, what effects you get out of your meditation. So what were the effects of meditation on your life?
I got a lot more calmful. More joy in life. Also I had a weird illnes, which went away most possibly because of my meditation (but I can`t be sure there). I would be so happy, to be able to meditate more often (right now, I have very little time). Meditation = best thing in life

Meditation for me has led me to be able to find that same calmness and satisfaction that one can get from meditation in many different "unmeditative" situations . It`s like meditation guides oneself to a point inside oneself which one can learn to get to in situations when not meditating.

To hold on to that feeling, that inner peace , when not meditating has for me been ( is ) a key thing with my whole spiritual seeking. To feel whole.

To not let it be a short glimpse, a temporary state, but something that last. The same thing with yoga, its not about special moments , its about having that state always. To turn to one center inside yourself, to not be divided.

I have also been detached from my body in a way, i am more still, i dont feel the same need as before to scratch my body, change my way of sitting, move my feets etc.It feels like that inner stilness in a way manifests through the body.

Of course it can shift, like everything else it has it`s "up and downs" , but i try to hold on to that feeling, thats the only thing that feels satisfying .

It`s almost like one is invoking an energy to oneself.Or detaching from other energies which disturbs this inner center of wholeness. To cleanse oneself and be like a vessel for it.

It has led me to eat different, behave and think differently.I want to eat good healthy food ,i want to exercise , to dont take stuff that are bad for my body , to dont be to attached by my self image and just be me without dressing up in these archetypical apperances that society has formed and imposed on us.

I want to strive to live closer to the potential that all of us have, i think there is a wonderful possibility for all us humans to change and grow. For everyone who creates art, music, writes etc, there is a huge potential to be found inside if one approaches it in a good and honest way.

If one is truly serious with ones work, whether it is creating music or painting etc, trying to reach ones potential and be detached from what disturbs it is vital. Also to feel good and whole as a person.

In a way the feeling is the only cure of the seeking, because the feeling , energy, inner center, is a feeling of not wanting, it is whole as it is. It does not want to go anywere, there is no other step to take, no other mountain to climb.

Then to stay on the mountain top and not to fall back to the ground is a life long process.

Since we always are going somewhere , what are we seeking ? Why are we not whole, what do we miss ? Why do we walk this never ending ladder , why do we climb this hill without a top if we dont feel that the step we are on now is unsatisfying, that there is something that we want to approach.

Maybe the whole life is a journey towards that , we seek to not want to seek anymore. We think that when we look like that, have that , are there etc, that then we will not want more. That is what life is centered around, to feed the desire, to get rid of the desire. The desire which is the same thing as not happy as it is, not complete. The feeling of wanting.

In a way meditation guides oneself to a point when one dont want anything, there is nothing that is missing, one is whole as it is. The stilness and inner unity which goes beyond words.

However we are humans and we have instincs and needs. We want to be stimulated, try new things. Nothing wrong with that as long as life not becomes a lifelong seeking of unsatisfaction and wanting. To just sit still on a rock and do nothing would be boring to most people. But to try to center oneself towards that point inside as often as possible gives satisfaction.

The desire is like a hunger, like suffering, no matter how much you feed it , it will still want to eat more. When you get that, you will want another thing. When you have climbed one step you will want to climb another. In a way its human nature. But the only true satisfaction is to get rid of the desire itself , in a realistic way.

And that feeling that meditation, yoga etc can give is the feeling of not wanting, it is good as it is. No need to go somewhere, to get something. You are complete as it is.

^ Thank you for your answer. So, you think, meditation is a tool for finding the "inner self", which stabilises your life? I agree.

It is also a tool for concentration and for achieving "rigt" ways of thinking and action. For me.

My pleasure : )

I would say that meditation can be a tool for finding the root which we are a tree of.

It can also be a tool for relaxing the body, release tension, or just get some time for getting calm in a stressful day.

The inner self or the real dharma is not words,a moment, a place etc .Its to be connected with oneself in the living presence , to be connected with oneself, right now.And to let that now continue. Like tuning into a wave that never ends more than to experience a revelation like moment. Its about to hold on to it, and let it flow through your every second.

Meditation can also be about learning equanimity.
So many possibilities.
It can also be about working with what has accumulated in the brain.

Back to the question on the effects of meditation:
Meditation calmed my mind down, which lead to the effect, that I get hurt way less easily.

gunter, since you have so much interest in spiritual awakening, i suggest you also read some literature,, mmm for example read:
lights on yoga, by shri aurobindo and mother,, but if you dont have basic knowledge of the concepts,, you might not be able to understand it completly, but surely it will help you understand what yoga is all about. this book is just 1 example,, there r many many such books which give you insights and basic knowledge, but eventually nothing will work, until and unless you put in the work yourself, work as in doing ,, not just reading and talking about such matters, but actaully Doing it ! pls feel free to ask more questions.

Thank you. But I have no questions about meditation. I am practicing myself since years. And have had great benefits.
Just wanted to share experiences.
BTW: Will attend a new Vipassana-course starting from next week. Looking forward

i practice meditation for long, but definetly not on a regular baisis. For me its like the religion. 'religion' it is an abolutely wrong term for it, but I use it here to emphasize the meaning of it to my innerst. Though it is the pure spiritualism and not an instruction of any community.
I could not describe what it does or is to me, I feel this is the source of all good and has my full trust. I wish I'd have more discipline but I come back to myself and meditation again and again. For all what I believe from heart there is room to clear any doubts or to be sure on the right track. The effects are only good.
Saying that, I haven't meditate for very long now. but it belongs to me & come back again and again.

I only recently Started meditating and I Have Started feeling its positive effects On my way of thinking and going about creative activities with a calm sense of being , rather than the chaos that our minds are generally filled with.

I am still new to it though , And i do get quite distracted but if i am able to Look past the distractions the positive effects are very apparent in any activity i do after the short time of meditation.

And i do agree with what Fometrius has to say - It can be a tool for finding the root which we are a tree of !

I have also observed that the meditative state is very much like the state of mind in a psychedelic experience. And The fact that these states of mind can be accessed by just calming the mind through meditation, Yoga and other practices is amazing.

One of the most beautiful moments in my life, consciousness-wise, was during a meditation course. In the break I wandered through nature and my mind was so calmed down, that it was able to see the beauty of nature much clearer and brighter then normally. It was undescribable. Never had experienced that before. Not necessarily connectivednes with nature, but totality, if you can imagine. Mm, hard to describe. Also never achieved that with psychedelics. Contrary to that psychedelics tend to give a more "funny" or "pseudo-spiritual" or "hallucinatic" view on nature, where the widend perspective of reality is only one part of the puzzle and other - sometimes not real - parts get added. But I love pureness.
Heading of to my next course now.

Will be curious to see other comments, when I am back in 11 days.

I teach yoga and other forms of fitness training.
I used to be a dj earlier and did my audio engg. Used to trip and party a lot and do yoga on the beaches with psy music.
Since 1999 ... i have been meditating. Over the years i have realized that it is just a state to be still and blank. I am at a level today where i meditate with my eyes open . It is life for me.
For me , i cannot define meditation as such becoz most people connect it with spirituality.

Yes, meditation can be anything, which is concentration on one object. Doesn`t matter, if closed eyes or not, doesn`t matter if sitting or walking, doesn`t matter, if spirituality is involved or not.
I just finished my Sattipattana Sutta Vipassana course. Nine intensive days. Gave great impulse to restart my daily praxis.
