I used to use the Master Tempo on my CDj 100s, but I encountered the same issue.
The reason why I started using the master tempo is due to key mixing.
It bugs me to hear a song out of "key". Especially when you know how it is supposed to sound. But when I have to choose between having it sound slightly off key (which usually only I notice) and having those obnoxious artifacts, I have to choose to turn off the master tempo. I like having the ability to play any track at the speed I want it to, but at the same time, if I have to deal with it sounding kinda wonky, I would much rather play music within 3-5 bpms of each other.
An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. |

You dont need to use master tempo to key mix. Simply catalogue the key of all your tracks at one given speed (say 140 bpm). Then the tracks which have the same key at the same speed will sound good together no matter what speed they are at. |

that is exactly what I do... then i write the key that is nearest (in pitch, some will be slightly off depending on the original bpm) on the corner of the record on in my cd case. So when I go looking for the next track I pick a song that will correspond with the key to create my harmonics... |
